Bachelor in Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy (EER)


1. PROGRAM MISION


The current system of power generation and consumption worldwide is experiencing a critical transition. Besides having to meet the ever growing demand for electricity, the need for reduction using fossil energy sources and greenhouse gas emissions is also prevalent at the same time. As such, application of advanced and intelligent technological solutions in power generation, improved efficiency in electricity transmission and consumption as well as the desire to search for new renewable energy sources to replace fossil sources (one of the main causes of climate change) are crucial in meeting such requirements. Such demanding requirements comes the need to train talented and passionate engineers and young professionals with high level of creativity, solid knowledge and high skills in power and energy segment.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology is an ideal place where capable engineers and experts in power and renewable energy are well-educated and trained, ready to meet the growing local, regional and global demand for human resources.

This program will equip students with basic knowledge in electrical power and technologies to make use of renewable energy for power generation. Students will also be rewarded with basic knowledge on application of modern technologies in computer, telecommunication technologies, Internet of Things and intelligent control in power generation, transmission, distribution and energy management.

 

2. PROGRAM CURRICULUM (for Bachelor in Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy - EER)

 

The curriculum provides a solid foundation such as: electrical engineering, electronics, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, etc., as well as in-depth technical knowledge of production and use of energy, especially the transmission, distribution and use of electricity. In addition, students will be equipped with knowledge of smart grid, renewable energy technologies such as photovoltaic systems, wind power, hydropower, biofuels, fuel cells, energy efficiency and management.

3. PROGRAM OUTCOMES 


Students completing the Electrical engineering and Renewable Energy training program should be able to:

     a. Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering in electrical and energy field
     b. Design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data in electrical and energy field
     c. Function on multi-disciplinary teams
     d. Identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems in electrical and energy field
     e. Understand the professional and ethical responsibility
      f. Communicate effectively
     g. Understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
     h. Use the skills and modern tools necessary for engineering practice in electrical and energy field
      i. Apply the fundamentals of energy conversion and energy efficiency applications
      j. Understand the obligations for implementing sustainable energy solutions 

 

4. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES 


Higher studies and research careers
 This Bachelor’s degree will entitle you to enroll the “Master in Green Electricity and Bio Energy” at USTH or any of the master’s degree courses offered in the Electricity and Energy fields. The master’s program will provide students with in-depth knowledge of the specialized subject. In addition, we offer many opportunities for internships or higher studies in more than 40 universities and research institutions in France. Graduates will have a great chance to become advisors, teachers or researchers at one of our partners’ establishments. 


Business and industrial careers

By stating engineering as a principle programmatic focus, the career potential for graduates of USTH’s Energy program is promising. They will be suitable for jobs of technicians, consultants, analysts, etc. in most of the institutions related to the management, production and use of energy, especially electricity. Students will be capable of designing and applying technologies and equipment to control, monitor and manage energy systems.

 

A few examples of workplaces for graduates:   

  • Power plants, electricity transmission and distribution companies (EVN and their affiliated companies)
  •  Consulting, design and construction firms of electrical systems, renewable energy systems (ARTELIA, VNEEC, GREENVIET, etc.)
  • State agencies in the fields of management and use of energy (organizations of General Department of Energy, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry Of Construction, etc.)
  • Non-governmental organizations related to the fields of renewable energy, sustainable development (GIZ, GREENID, SNV NETHERLANDS, USAID, etc.)
  • Universities, institutes and research centers (Centers for Energy Consultants – VECC, Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Companies1, 2, 3, 4 of EVN at North, Centre and South of Vietnam, Institute of Energy Science-VAST), Institute of Electronics, Computer Science and Automation, etc.)
