Nuclear technology is widely applied across healthcare, industry, food science and energy, creating diverse career opportunities for professionals with backgrounds in science and engineering.
In order to help students gain a deeper understanding of this field and explore its career prospects, the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH), in collaboration with the French National Institute for Nuclear Science and Technology (INSTN), under the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), is organising an Info Session entitled “Career Pathways in Nuclear Science and Civilian Nuclear Applications.”
The event marks a concrete step towards implementing the strategic cooperation agreement between USTH and CEA, one of Europe’s leading scientific research and technological development organisations, with more than 20,000 researchers. It follows the presentation of cooperation agreements involving USTH, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and CEA in Paris in September 2026, in the presence of General Secretary and President To Lam.

Programme Highlights
- Nuclear applications in daily life: Explore how nuclear technology is used in healthcare, food science, industry and energy. The session will also examine the links between these applications and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting the wider societal impact of careers in the sector.
- Understanding nuclear programmes: Learn about the different stages and lifecycle of a nuclear programme, gaining insight into workforce requirements and the long-term career opportunities the sector can offer.
- Exploring career opportunities across the nuclear value chain: Discover the organisations and stakeholders involved in the nuclear value chain, the roles associated with different stages of development, and the range of professional backgrounds, educational qualifications and levels of nuclear specialisation required for different positions.
- Educational pathways into the nuclear sector: Learn about supplementary training programmes and specialised learning pathways available to students and professionals from diverse academic backgrounds who wish to pursue careers in the nuclear field.
- Career prospects in the nuclear sector: Gain a broader perspective on employment opportunities in nuclear science and technology in Vietnam, across the region and worldwide.
USTH – CEA: Strengthening international cooperationThe French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is one of France’s and Europe’s leading organisations for scientific research and technological development. Its activities span a wide range of strategic fields, including nuclear energy, renewable energy, hydrogen, microelectronics, artificial intelligence and biomedical sciences. Research cooperation between USTH and CEA dates back to 2015, when scientists from both institutions began establishing collaborative links in energy conversion and storage. A significant milestone was reached in September 2026, when cooperation agreements involving USTH, VAST and CEA were presented in Paris in the presence of General Secretary and President To Lam. The occasion, held as part of his visit to CEA, recognised the progress achieved through existing collaboration and reaffirmed the commitment of the parties to advancing substantive, long-term cooperation, contributing to scientific and educational ties between Vietnam and France. Building on these shared priorities, USTH and CEA’s affiliated institution, INSTN, have discussed and agreed on memoranda of understanding to advance joint activities in education and training, research and technology transfer. The areas of cooperation include nuclear science and technology, new energy technologies, hydrogen energy and semiconductors, among others. |
