University of Science and Technology – USTH (also called Vietnam France University) awarded 177 prizes to gold-medal students at the 10th academic contest among the gifted high schools in coastal areas and the north of Vietnam on April 15, 2018 in Nam Dinh.
This year’s contest was organized by Le Hong Phong high school in Nam Dinh, taking place from April 14-15, with a focus on 12 subjects such as Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature, History, Geography, and Foreign Languages (English, French, Chinese, Russian) and Computing. With expanding scale, the contest attracted about 1,800 students from 42 gifted high schools in many provinces in the coastal areas and the north of Vietnam such as Ha Nam, Quang Ninh, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Thai Binh, Hai Phong, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Nam Dinh, and Hue.
The contest is aimed to help the students to improve their knowledge and prepare for other contests at provincial and national levels. It also offers an opportunity for the teachers to share and develop their teaching skills.
The award ceremony on April 15 had the attendance of meritorious teacher Cao Xuan Hung, Director of Education and Training Department of Nam Dinh province; Mr. Tran Le Doai, Vice Chairman of People’s Committee of the province; and the leaders of the 42 gifted high schools, 600 teachers, and 1.800 high school students attended the contest.
At the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, Vice Rector of USTH awarded prizes to 177 excellent gold-medal students.
“It is an honor for USTH to be a companion of the contest for the second time, said Ms. Mai Thanh, hoping that through those contests like this one, talented students in science and technology will be identified, nurtured and received proper career orientation so that they can become potential scientists and researchers in Vietnam.”
As one of the Vietnamese new model universities, specializing in science and technology, USTH regularly organizes Science Day where students can meet reputable scientists and outstanding alumni of USTH, visit international standard laboratories and have interesting scientific experiments.
Besides, USTH also actively participates in scientific events of high schools as a guest of honor such as Scientific Performance Contest of Hoang Van Thu gifted high school in Hoa Binh, and STEM Day of Hung Yen Gifted High School.
Attending the contest for talented high school students in the coastal areas and northern of Vietnam as a sponsor is a part of USTH’s efforts to motivate students, especially who are pursuing dreams in natural sciences.
