On August 23, 2018, the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC), which is under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, in order to improve the quality of training and research activities in the field of Space Technology.
The ceremony was attended by Assoc.Prof. Pham Anh Tuan – General Director of VNSC, Prof. Patrick Boiron – Rector of USTH, Assoc. Prof. Ngo Duc Thanh – Vice Rector, Co-Director of Space and Aeronautics Department and representative staff of two units.
The signed agreement marked a new development in the cooperation between USTH and VNSC. Earlier, on July 31st, 2012, USTH signed the first MoU with VNSC, laying the foundation for joint training and research activities between the two parties.
With the positive results obtained after the first MoU, USTH and VNSC have agreed to sign the 5-year agreement phase 2 in order to continue to utilize and exploit the advantages of both parties to provide the best benefit to students, faculty and researchers.
Accordingly, the two sides will continue to coordinate and develop the Space and Aeronautics training programs. In detail, VNSC, with an abundant workforce of experienced scientists in the field of Space Technology, especially in Satellite Technology, will continue to send these experts to teach students following Bachelor, Master and Doctoral training program at USTH. In addition, students of Space and Aeronautics Department will also be given plenty of opportunities to take internships at VNSC, as well as directly involved in research activities at the Center. This will give students valuable experiences, which later would become their competitive advantage when they enter the job market.
In addition, USTH will continue to implement preferential policies in order to support VNSC in training workforce in the field of Space. The strong international partner network of USTH including prestigious universities and top research institutes in the world, for instance Paris Observatory, French National Centre for Space Studies (CNES), National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics… will also help VNSC expand its cooperative network through various bilateral or multilateral training and research programs.
Besides, the two sides agreed to pay more attention to the co-organization of scientific dissemination activities and educational projects to spread scientific knowledge of Space technology and Astronomy for young people.
VNSC is the pioneer in the field of research, development, application and training of Space Technology, especially Satellite Technology in Vietnam. Over the past seven years, VNSC has been implementing many national and international cooperation projects to foster the Space Technology in Vietnam towards the international level.
The Space and Aeronautics Department at USTH is giving training programs about three main domains of Space Science and Technology: Earth Observation and Remote Sensing, Astrophysics and Satellite Technologies. Through the signing of cooperation agreements with universities, research institutes in the field of Space Science such as VNSC, USTH expects to bring more educational and career opportunities for Bachelor, Master and Doctoral students.
