In response to activities celebrating Vietnam Science and Technology Day on May 18th, the establishment day of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) on May 20th and activities promoting Vietnam Book Day on April 21st, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi – USTH (also called Vietnam France University) attended the workshop and book exhibition at the library of VAST.
The event was co-held by Center of Information and Documentation and Natural Science and Technology Publisher from April 19th-20th, 2018.
Representatives of USTH at the event were Prof. Patrick Boiron-Rector of USTH; Mr. Gerard Gasquest – Director of Administration of USTH. Besides, there were participation of leaders of VAST’s units and over 150 scientists, researchers, post-graduates and students from 24 units inside and outside VAST.
This is the fifth time the workshop and book exhibition has been organised with an aim to promote book reading culture among community, honouring value of books and its importance in society. The event also aimed to support researchers in collecting scientific and technological information, publishing books and research results. Over 100 book titles were displayed at this time’s event.
In addition, the event provided an opportunity for participants to meet, discuss and exchange their experiences in effectively exploiting information research for research activities, thus improving knowledge.
Participating this time’s event, USTH would like to contribute to raising awareness of public on reading culture and encourage lecturers and students to look up, accumulate and share information, especially in the fields of science and technology.
The event included display on science books, meeting with authors, introduction on new publications, authors’ experience sharing, book presenting and lucky draw. The opening ceremony saw a musical performance of USTH students.
At the workshop, professors and scientists introduced the best books about science to audiences, such as three books about Richard Feyman- the famous theoretical physicist in the world or “A Brief History of Black Holes” – inspired by Stephen Hawking’s famous book “A Brief History of Time”. Additionally, Dr. Nguyen Tuan Anh from Institute of Tropical Technology shared his experience about writing books for Elsevier Publisher to audiences.
In order to thanks audiences and promoting reading culture, over 500 books on science, technology and politics were presented to audiences. This is a valuable source given by prestigious authors, publishers and partners of the Library over the past years.
