Space Generation [Vietnam – SG [Vietnam] is organized at University of Science and Technology of Hanoi – USTH (also called Vietnam France University), attracting a number of international experts from many enterprises, organizations and the US government.
On May 8, for the first time, USTH cooperated with Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) and Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC) to organize SG [Vietnam] workshop.
On behalf of the organizers, the workshop had the participation of Ms. Nguyen Ha Nhung, Head of the International Cooperation Division; Dr. Le Xuan Huy, representative of VNSC; Ms. Stephanie Wan, representative of SGAC.
From the guest side, many experts from VNSC, US Department of State, Secure World Foundation, space technology companies such as IMSG, and Planet; and satellite development supported companies such as Nanoracks, and AGI.
The workshop focuses on important topics such as small satellites and opportunities of the universities; Space situational awareness, opportunities for Space in Vietnam, Earth Observation Data for Benefits in Vietnam, Integrating Weather Data in Vietnam; Integrating Space Data for Disaster Management; and US – Vietnam Space Cooperation.
Ms. Stephanie Wan, representative of SGAC which is operating under the auspices of the United Nation, said that this was the outreach event prior to the US-Vietnam meeting in four days in Vietnam of US Department of State. The workshop was a chance for Vietnamese researchers, lectures, and students to connect with not only the global space community but also the international enterprises and organization in the field.
SGAC is a non-governmental organization operating under the auspices of the United Nation to promote the benefit of exploring space, science, and technology, as well as inspire the students and the young professionals in the field. Currently, SGAC has had 13,000 members in 110 nations in the world.
On the other hand, the members can participate in SGAC’s pilot projects such as using sustainable use of space, space exploration, and building laws and . In addition, there are scholarships for young students aged 18 to 35 every year in the SGAC Global Grants Program and SGAC Young Leaders Scholarships (Over 120 scholarships were awarded in 2017).

As the first university in Vietnam has space training programs, USTH is the pioneer to bring career opportunities in the three majors such as remote sensing, satellite technology, and astrophysics. Department of Space and Aeronautics of the USTH has nurtured passion for space of many young people in Vietnam. Currently, some USTH students have become the active members of the SGAC.
“We would like to have a more active dialogue with USTH- encouraging their students to apply for global or regional events,” Ms. Stephanie Wan emphasized.
