The University of Science and Technology of Hanoi – USTH (also called Vietnam France University) and the Western University on August 9th, 2018 signed a Memorandum of Understanding, marking the official cooperation between the two universities.
The signing ceremony took place on the same day as the launching of two research institutes, the Phienkaa Research And Technology Institute (PRATI) and the Thanh Tay Institute for Advanced Study (TIAS) of the Western University.
According to the memorandum of understanding, the two sides agreed to promote exchanges of scholars and scientific research activities such as exchange of resources; support for research; development and implementation of joint teaching and research programs; cooperation in instructing graduate students, especially in the field of materials science.
They also agreed to co-organize scientific seminars and specialized courses to promote science as well as support each other in international cooperation activities.
Western University is a private university established in 2007. Since 2017, it has received investment from Phuong Xanh Group A&A (Phenikaa), which owns the high quartz stone brand VICOSTONE, to development of training and research activities.
The two institutes PRATI & TIAS are expected to focus on fundamental and applied sciences, many of which are USTH’s strengths such as nanotechnology, information technology, bio-medicine science and agriculture. The MoU is hoped to creat favorable conditions for USTH and Western University to take advantage of each other’s strengths to bring out the best cooperation results.
