The talkshow “Overview on Food Science and Technology” was successfully organised by students of USTH Food Science and Technology program and Hanoi Student Association of Food Science and Technology on July 15, 2018 with participation of many students, lecturers and those who are interested in the program.
The Hanoi Student Association of Food Science and Technology is a network students majoring in Food Science and Technology in Hanoi, including University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH), Hanoi University of Technology (HUST) and Hanoi University of Agriculture (HNUA). In addition, the association also connects students and employees in this field with an aim of improving the quality of students in the food industry and promote the knowledge of food science to a wider network of audiences.
At the event, information about the food industry and Food Science and Technology program was well – delivered to participants through presentations and discussions. In addition, guests and lecturers answered questions about internships, field trips and exchange program in detail.
According to Dr. Le Thi Van Anh – Lecturer – Coordinator of USTH Food Science and Technology program, unlike other university training programs that focus on production lines, the Food Science and Technology program at USTH is developed with the aim of improving and developing modern procedures and new products to increase the value of Vietnam’s agricultural staples as well as to control food safety and quality.
Additionally, not only is it designed with courses’ content includes cutting-edge food technologies, but it is also well – adapted for value-adding technologies of Vietnamese agricultural products. Besides, the large-scale practice hours will provide students with the skills they need to work in the food industry.
In addition to the theory and experiment lessons in the lab, USTH regularly organizes field trips to large corporations such as VinGroup of VinGroup to help students learn different production models. At the same time, students are provided with the opportunity to develop their ideas into projects. In 2018, two projects of students majoring in Food Science and Technology program received financial support from university for research and implementation.
The first workshop has received positive feedback from attendees, which is the basis for similar activities to be held in the future.
