On June 6, 2024, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) held a ceremony to honor the achievements of the collaboration between USTH, Airbus, Bricks, ENAC, Consortium USTH, Vietnam Airlines, and VAECO during the period 2018-2023.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the French Embassy in Vietnam, Airbus, Bricks, ENAC, Vietnam Airlines, VAECO, along with the USTH Rector Board, lecturers, and students of the Aeronautics Department.
In his opening speech, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest – Principal Rector of USTH emphasized that the ceremony was an opportunity for USTH and its Vietnamese and French partners to reflect on the creation and development of the Aeronautical Engineering training program at USTH. He expressed joy and pride in the program’s growth, which has gained high appreciation and trust from partners, parents, and students. He stated that this was the first training program developed by USTH with direct involvement from industry partners in the training process, equipping students with the necessary knowledge and skills tailored to the aviation industry’s labor market. The program’s success in its initial implementation phase (2018-2023) is a result of the continuous efforts from USTH and its French and Vietnamese partners. He expressed hope for the future development of the Aeronautical Engineering training program, extending beyond Vietnam to reach an international level.
Assoc. Prof. Ngo Quang Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of Aeronautics, presented a summary report on the activities and key results achieved from the cooperation agreement between USTH, Airbus, Bricks, ENAC, Consortium USTH, Vietnam Airlines, and VAECO for the period 2018-2023.
The Bachelor’s program in Aeronautical Engineering and the Master’s program in International Air Transport Management at USTH were established in 2018 based on comprehensive cooperation between Airbus, Bricks, ENAC, Consortium USTH, Vietnam Airlines, and VAECO, with strong support from the French Embassy in Vietnam and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. The objective is to meet the demand for high-quality technical human resources in the rapidly growing Vietnamese aviation industry. To date, USTH’s Aeronautical Engineering program has enrolled six cohorts of students. The Master’s program in International Air Transport Management has enrolled four cohorts of students.
VAECO has recruited two cohorts of graduates from the Aeronautical Engineering program after they completed the basic aircraft maintenance certification B1/B2. Many other alumni have worked at various airlines such as Vietjet and Bamboo Airways or have continued their master’s studies in France, including the Master’s program in International Air Transport Management at ENAC.
With solid professional skills and proficiency in foreign languages, graduates from USTH’s Aeronautical programs have been actively contributing to the high-quality human resources needed for developing the Vietnamese aviation industry. The achievements are a clear testament to the success of USTH’s aviation training programs and the comprehensive partnership between USTH and its Vietnamese and French partners.
During the development and implementation of the Aeronautical Engineering program, Bricks played a vital role in curriculum development, lecturer training, teaching transfer, and sending foreign lecturers to teach at USTH. At the event, Ms. Valerie Barthe – Head of Customer Relations and Training Solutions at Bricks, shared insights on the collaboration journey with USTH and its French and Vietnamese partners since the idea of establishing the Department Aeronautics at USTH emerged in 2016. She highlighted the unique aspects of the program, such as its design to meet the needs of the Vietnamese aviation market, the use of English as the teaching language, internships at companies, and the involvement of commercial partners. She expressed confidence in USTH’s Aeronautical Engineering program and wished for its bright future development.
Since 2016, Airbus has actively supported the establishment of the Department of Aeronautics and the development of Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in Aeronautics at USTH, following a memorandum of understanding signed with representatives from the French and Vietnamese governments. Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Alessandra Erre – Director of International Cooperation at Airbus, noted that these programs were developed based on a careful evaluation of Vietnam’s labor market needs, with contributions from prestigious aviation training institutions like Bricks and ENAC. The aim is not only to provide high-quality technical human resources but also to train future leaders in the aviation field. She emphasized: “This collaboration not only strengthens relationships within the aerospace community but also promotes advancements in technology and education. Together with our partners, we have demonstrated the power of teamwork and innovation, fostering positive change and sustainable growth in the aviation sector. The partnership between Airbus and USTH is one of several agreements Airbus has established in Vietnam, highlighting Airbus’s commitment to maintain a crucial role in the development of Vietnam’s aerospace ecosystem.”
Vietnam Airlines and VAECO are strategic partners of USTH in training and recruiting students upon their graduation from USTH’s Bachelor’s program in Aeronautical Engineering. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Chien Thang, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines, expressed joy at the success of the Aeronautical Engineering program. He also shared positive feedback about the quality of USTH students working at Vietnam Airlines and VAECO. He emphasized that this success forms an essential foundation for developing the Aeronautical Engineering program in the next phase. He emphasized Vietnam Airlines’ commitment to partnering with USTH to enhance the program to better meet the needs of Vietnam and the region.
Mr. Pham Minh Hiep, Deputy General Director of VAECO, highly appreciated the USTH training program for its rigorous admission process and an English-language training program that tightly integrates theory and practice. At USTH, students can shorten their study duration by 2-3 years, allowing them to obtain both a Bachelor’s degree and a basic aircraft maintenance certificate (B1/B2) more quickly than usual. Additionally, the six-month practical internship at VAECO enables students to become familiar with the skills, processes, and strict discipline of the aviation industry. Mr. Pham Minh Hiep noted that the quality of USTH students is evident through recruitment periods, with 100% of applicants being hired by VAECO. During their employment, USTH graduates are highly regarded for their expertise, professional work ethic, and language skills. He also shared VAECO’s development plans and affirmed that the training model at USTH brings clear benefits to the university, company, and students.
Building on the successful foundation of the 2018-2023 period, in March 2024, USTH signed a cooperation agreement with Vietnam Airlines and VAECO for the 2024-2026 period to bring even more robust development to the Aeronautics programs in the future.
ENAC has collaborated with USTH to develop and implement the Master of International Air Transport Management to provide broader career opportunities for students in the aviation field. Accordingly, students spend one semester at USTH, two semesters at ENAC (France), and one internship at international or Vietnamese aviation companies. Speaking at the event, Mr. Nicolas Cazalis, Vice President of ENAC, emphasized that this was a very successful international cooperation project and a symbolic one for ENAC, while committing to continue supporting USTH to further develop the Master of International Air Transport Management. He also thanked USTH for providing modern facilities and high-quality teaching in the first semester when students study there, along with the Vietnamese and French partners who contributed to the program’s success.
Nguyen Le Ky Anh, a student from the first cohort of the Bachelor’s program in Aeronautical Engineering, shared his experience studying USTH and ENAC. Ky Anh expressed pride in witnessing the achievements of the program over the years. He thanked the professors of the Aeronautics Department, USTH, and its partners, including Airbus, Bricks, ENAC, Consortium USTH, Vietnam Airlines, and VAECO, for providing opportunities to study in an international environment, acquire up-to-date knowledge, and pursue a career in the aviation field.
In the discussion on future cooperation ideas, Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh – Rector of USTH, shared the development strategy for the Aeronautical Engineering program at USTH for the 2024-2030 period. Accordingly, USTH aims to recruit 100 students by 2030. USTH will strengthen cooperation with domestic and international airlines such as Vietnam Airlines, VAECO, Vietjet, Singapore Airlines, AESC, and Hai Au to provide more career opportunities for students in maintenance, repair, and operations. USTH plans to develop a master’s program in Aeronautical Engineering at USTH, along with strengthening partnerships with French aviation schools (ENAC and ISAE-SUPAERO) to create opportunities for students to pursue master’s degrees abroad.
The event concluded, marking an important milestone and laying a solid foundation for the development of the Aeronautics programs at USTH in the future.
