From 28/10/2019 to 02/11/2019, the delegation of the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) paid a visit and had working session at University College Cork (UCC) and several training – research organizations in Cork, Ireland. This visit brought lots of chances and potential for cooperation between USTH and partners in this country.The delegation was participated by Assoc. Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, Rector of USTH; Dr. Nguyen Dinh Quang, Director of Department of Energy; Dr. Nguyen Trinh Hoang Anh, Lecturer/ Researcher of Department of Energy; Dr. Tran Hoang Anh, Training Assistant of Department of Energy; Ms. Do Thi Thuy Trang, Officer of International Cooperation Office; and Mr. Tong Minh Quan, Department of Energy’s student.
During the visit, USTH’s delegation attended the meeting of report on preliminary results of the project “To strengthen the ability of modeling energy and climate” between USTH and Centre for Marine and Renewable Energy, UCC; also, visited and worked effectively with universities as well as training and research organizations in Cork.
Especially, the delegation worked with the Rector of UCC, which is one of Ireland’s oldest universities. It is also one of the most excellent universities for science research and applied technology in this country, also ranked in the top 2% of universities all over the world. In 2018, USTH and UCC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to lay the groundwork for the cooperative relationship. Hence, based on this visit, the rectors of the two universities discussed and agreed to promote the specific cooperation activities to exploit effectively each other’s strengths, beginning with the student exchange in the near future.
After the working session and discussion with partners, this visit opened the potential of cooperation in Ireland in the exchange of lecturers to participate in training and cooperate in the joint projects in the field of Computer science, Artificial intelligence, Food Science and technology, Biotechnology with the departments under UCC such as the Centre for Analytics, the School of Microbiology, and College of Science, Engineering and Food Science.
During the visit, the delegation met and established the cooperation with some research and training organizations in the field of science and technology in Cork, which are especially mentioned such as the International Energy Research Centre (IERC) and Cork Institute of Technology (CIT). Among those, IERC expressed a desire to cooperate with USTH in the joint projects and receive exchange students for internship programs. CIT agreed to implement the academic exchange activities between students and lecturers of the two universities, especially under the fund of Erasmus+ project and the Embassy of Ireland.
