On December 9th, 2018, the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) successfully organized Open Day, with the participation of more than 800 students and parents from many provinces.
Choosing the right major at university is an important decision for all high school students. According to educational experts, candidates need to consider 3 key criteria to make the good decision on their future: their passion, their capacity and the needs the labor market.
Understanding the importance of career- oriented activities for high school students, USTH held the 2018 Open Day. This is the most exciting orientation and admission consultation event organized by USTH with the aim to provide the detailed and most updated information on our training programs,, career prospects, internship opportunities and admission policies.
The event attracted the participation of more than 800 high school students and parents from various provinces in the North such as Hung Yen, Nam Dinh, Phu Tho, Bac Giang, Thanh Hoa, Lang Son…
During the opening speech, Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh – Acting rector of USTH expressed her hope that the event would provide useful information for students and parents before the admission waves of the academic year 2019-2020.
Prof Dinh Thi Mai Thanh also announced two good news related to the development of USTH. On November 2, 2018, the Intergovernmental Agreement between Vietnam and France for the development of USTH for the period of 5 years from 2019 to 2023 was signed, in which the two sides show determination and commitment to develop USTH to become an excellent university and one of the top university in the South East Asia. Besides, in 2018, the Vietnamese government approved the project to build a 6500m2 campus for USTH in Hoa Lac with a budget of $185 million, serving for study and research activities of USTH lecturers and students in the near future.
At the event, the high school students and parents had opportunities to meet and get consulted by USTH lecturers in terms of training programs, career prospects and professional development opportunities, including internship and study exchange abroad. Especially, it was one of few occasions USTH labs were open for the high school students and parents to visit and experience many interesting scientific experiments.
According to La Viet Duy, a student from Le Hong Phong gifted high school, Nam Dinh, attending such career orientation event as USTH Open Day would help him to have a proper understanding of the career path he wants to follow, thus build an appropriate study plan and make right decisions on the selection of the major and university in the future.
In the academic year 2019-2020, USTH will continue to recruit students for 13 training programs in the field of science and technology: Pharmacological, Medical and Agronomical Biotechnology, Information and Communication Technology, Medical Science and Technology, Food Science and Technology, Advanced Materials Science and Nanotechnology, Energy, Water – Environment – Oceanography, Aeronautical maintenance and engineering operations, Engineering Physics and Electronics, Chemistry, Applied Maths, Space and Applications, and Cyber Security.
USTH provides the English supporting program with the duration of either 3 months or 1 year for candidates who have good academic knowledge and passion for science but need further time to improve their English proficiency before entering the 3-year bachelor program.
Especially, USTH will continue to provide many attractive offers for candidates with high results in examinations of selecting gifted students of Math, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at national and international level, including direct offer and scholarship. The first admission wave for the bachelor programs is expected to take place in January, 2019.
