From October 27 to 29, 2026, the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) welcomed the HCERES expert team from the French High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERES) to evaluate four bachelor’s programs: Biotechnology – Drug Discovery (BIT), Food Science and Technology (FST), Medical Science and Technology (MST), and Chemistry (CH).
The accreditation is part of USTH’s ongoing efforts to strengthen quality assurance and enhance its academic programs in line with international standards.
On October 27, the HCERES team met with representatives of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), USTH’s governing body.

Prof. Chu Hoang Ha, Vice President of VAST and Chairman of the USTH University Council, welcomed the delegation and chaired the meeting. He highlighted the important role of international accreditation in enhancing the quality of education and research. He emphasized that the HCERES assessment provides a valuable opportunity for USTH to review and further strengthen its academic and research activities, improve the quality of higher education, and reinforce the University’s academic reputation.

During the three-day assessment at USTH, the HCERES expert team conducted a comprehensive evaluation of teaching and research activities, facilities and laboratory systems, student support services, and graduates’ career prospects. They also held 16 in-depth interview sessions with the Rector Board, leaders of the Department of Life Sciences and the Department of Chemical and Environmental Technology, full-time and visiting lecturers, current students, alumni, employers, and other stakeholders associated with the four programs.
The assessment findings and recommendations from HCERES will provide a valuable foundation for USTH to build on its strengths, identify areas for further improvement, and continuously enhance the quality of its academic programs in pursuit of sustainable development goals.
In November 2023, USTH received HCERES institutional accreditation for its first accreditation cycle, valid until November 2028. This achievement marked a significant milestone in the University’s development and laid the groundwork for further improvements in university governance, educational services, and research activities in accordance with international standards.

Building on this achievement, USTH has continued to expand its program-level quality assurance and accreditation activities. In February 2026, 04 bachelor’s programs managed by the Department of Engineering and Technology, including Mechatronics Engineering Technology (MET), Automotive Engineering (ATE), Aeronautical Engineering (AE), and Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy (EER) were awarded HCERES accreditation for five years, valid until February 2031. The ongoing external assessment of 04 additional programs in Life Sciences and Chemistry represents the next step in USTH’s roadmap toward achieving international accreditation for all its academic programs.

Also in 2026, USTH participated in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Stars university rating system for the first time and achieved an overall rating of 4 Stars, corresponding to “Very Good.” USTH received the highest rating of 5 Stars in three key categories: Teaching, Employability, and Global Engagement.

International accreditation represents an important step forward in USTH’s strategy to enhance educational quality in accordance with international standards. It further reinforces the University’s academic reputation and its commitment to continuously improving the quality of education and research, fostering and maintaining an internationally oriented learning environment, and meeting the growing demand for highly qualified human resources in Vietnam and worldwide.
