Clean energy and sustainable development in Vietnam

CleanED 2017

Dr. Laurent Van de Steene /

Dr. Nguyen Xuan Truong

Topic 1: Micro Smart Grid Development and Application for Building Energy.

- Contribute to modernisation of Vietnamese distribution grid, especially in low voltage grid, in order to complete national directions of energy security, economic development and climate change requirements;

- Address scientific research on smart grid technologies at local level, that known as “micro grid”;

- Benefit from photovoltaic power supply, to improve energy efficiency and to reduce cost of electrical consumption in different scenarios.

Contribution to Vietnam policy implementation and technology application regarding to the solar power energy and smart grid technologies.

Topic 2: Co-firing for electricity production - Non technical aspects.

- Evaluate the physical and monetized effect of two representative co-firing project to various stakeholders: global CO2 emissions, local air quality, farming profitability, transport business, electricity generation profitability;

- Produce a map of the biomass resource market potential in Vietnam at the grid scale resolution.

- An economic analysis model;

- Map of biomass resource market potential in Vietnam.

Topic 3: Co-firing for electricity production - Technical aspects.

Investigate the behaviour of Vietnamese biomass during co-combustion with anthracite coal. In particular, we will focus on the influence of parameters and phenomena that control the combustion of coal/biomass mixing regarding carbon conversion and pollutant formation.

Thermochemical behaviour of a coal/biomass mix during combustion in industrial power plants.
