On November 16, 2021, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest – Principal Rector of the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) had a meeting with Mr. Dominique Laffly – Attaché for Science and University Cooperation of the Embassy of France in Vietnam.
Participating in the meeting there were also Assoc. Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh – Rector, Dr. Nguyen Hai Dang – Vice-Rector, Mr. Luc Le Calvez – Director of Research, Innovation and Technology Transfer Department, and representatives of academic departments of USTH.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest congratulated Mr. Dominique Laffly on his newly appointed position and thanked the Embassy of France in Vietnam for having actively been supporting USTH in recent years.
He also introduced to Mr. Dominique Laffly the training and scientific research activities of USTH and expressed his expectation that the two parties would have more cooperation in the fields of culture, training, and research, especially in developing the bachelor, master, and doctoral programs as well as the joint research project between USTH and French universities and research organizations.
On behalf of the Embassy, Mr. Dominique Laffly thanked the USTH Rector Board for the warm welcome and expressed his amazement at the achievements of the University for the last 10 years. He hoped that the two parties would continue to make valuable contributions to the development of bilateral relations between Vietnam and France.
Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest and Mr. Dominique Laffly both agreed that the upcoming 2023 would mark many important milestones in the development of the University. This is the pivotal year heading towards the signing of the Intergovernmental Agreement between Vietnam and France on the development of USTH in the next phase and is also the time when the project of building the USTH campus in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park is expected to be completed. On the other hand, in 2023, Vietnam and France will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership between the two countries, creating many new opportunities for cooperation between USTH and French partners.
After the meeting, Mr. Dominique Laffly visited the laboratories, one of the strengths in terms of facilities serving for training and research of USTH.
