USTH successfully held the 8th University Council meeting

On May 5th, 2022, the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) successfully held the 8th University Council Meeting with many approved important contents to create a favorable premise for development of the university in the future.

This year's meeting is held in the form of a combination of online and in-person meetings to ensure the full presence of the French and Vietnamese University Council members.

Attending the meeting were Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha - Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, President of the University Council; Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Van Phuc - Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education and Training, Dr. Senior Official. Le Viet Anh - Director of the Department of Science, Education, Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Planning and Investment; Mr. Le Quang Thanh - Chief of the Department of Social and Natural Sciences Management, Ministry of Science and Technology; Prof. Dominique Laffly - Attaché for Science and University Cooperation of the Embassy of France in Vietnam; Mr. Patrick Nedellec - Vice President of the University Council, Mr. Bernard Legube - President of the USTH Consortium and members of the University Council who are representatives of Opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha emphasized that USTH is entering an important phase of development towards the goal of becoming an excellent university and expressed his expectation that through the meeting, the members of the University Council will give important suggestions, contributing to the strategies of training, research, academic development, and finance for the development of the university in the coming period.

On behalf of the University, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest - Principal Rector and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh - Rector reported the final results for 2021. In terms of training, the enrollment rate increased by 75% for the bachelor’s programs and by 97% for the master's programs, which is the highest rate since the establishment of the university. USTH also continues to promote its training strengths in science and technology by opening two new training programs: Data Science and Automotive Engineering, bringing the total number of undergraduate majors of USTH to 16 majors.

Regarding research, USTH has published 111 articles in SCI-E journals, with an average of 1.43 articles per lecturer, close to the international publishing capacity of universities around the world. USTH ranked 2nd among the institutes under VAST in terms of international publication quality (according to the Impact Factor index).

In 2021, USTH will expand its network of domestic and international partners to improve the quality of training and research, and at the same time provide a variety of opportunities for academic exchange, practice, internship and employment for students. The university signed more than 16 cooperation agreements and memorandum of understanding with partners in France, Korea, Belgium; at the same time increased cooperation with large enterprises of Vietnam. Especially, the University has signed agreements with French universities of the USTH Consortium to deploy double degrees of 3 Bachelor programs: Information and Communication Technology; Chemistry; Biotechnology - Drug Discovery.

Also at the meeting, the members of the University Council discussed, agreed and approved many important proposals to contribute to the development of USTH in the coming time, including the development strategy for 2022-2025 period, with a vision to 2030, the plan of opening a USTH branch in Ho Chi Minh City and the plan of opening the pharmaceutical program based on the training strengths of French partners.

The 8th meeting of the USTH University Council ended successfully.
