French Ambassador to Vietnam paid a visit to USTH

On 15th November, 2019, the French Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Nicolas Warnery had the first working session with Acad. Prof. Chau Van Minh, the President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), as well as visited the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH).

The session was attended by Mr. Etienne Rolland-Piegue – Counselor for Cultural Cooperation and Activities of the French Embassy in Vietnam; Mr. Hervé Ochsenbein – Economic Counselor of the French Embassy in Vietnam; and Mr. Eric Molay - Attaché of Science and University Cooperation of the French Embassy in Vietnam.

The delegation was welcomed by Acad. Prof. Chau Van Minh, the President of VAST, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ninh Khac Ban – Director of International Cooperation Office; Dr. Bui Trong Tuyen, Director of the Institute of Space Technology ; Prof. Etienne Saur- Principal Rector of USTH and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, Rector of USTH.

This was the first visit and working session of Mr. Nicolas Warnery at VAST, the governing body of USTH, as the French Ambassador to Vietnam.

On behalf of VAST, the President Chau Van Minh wished the new Ambassador to have a successful term of office, as well as highly appreciated the support from the French Embassy in Vietnam in the science and technology projects between VAST and French partners in the past period, especially the project of the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH).

The President emphasized that the growth of USTH would always be the priority of VAST, as well as expressed his desire that the French Government would continually support the development of USTH in the near future.

Especially, the President invited the French Ambassador to attend the 10th Anniversary of USTH, which will be held on 9th December, 2019. This is the meaningful event to mark the first stage of the university’s operation.

The Ambassador thanked the formal welcome of the President Chau Van Minh and emphasized that USTH is the biggest and most ambitious cooperation project in higher education and research between Vietnam and France. He affirmed that the French Government commits to continually invest and support USTH so that the university would incessantly improve the quality of education and research, aiming to become the excellent university, as the two governments committed in the Intergovernmental Agreement signed in 2018. 

Specifically, the French Government has sent experienced experts to undertake the strategic positions in education and research of the university, especially the 3 core ones that are Prof. Etienne Saur - Principal Rector; Dr. Luc Le Calvez – Director of Research, Renovation and Technology Transfer Department; and Dr. Sabine Vermillard – Director of Academic Affairs Department.

At the end of the working session, Mr. Nicolas Warnery visited USTH and had a meeting with the Rector Board as well as the leaders of the university’s departments.
