  1. Introduction

With the aim of building an advanced model in the Higher Education system in Vietnam, promoting innovation and bringing the quality of Higher Education in Vietnam to a high level in the region and the world, the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) was established in 2010 in Vietnam. USTH is operated under the Intergovernmental Agreement between Vietnam and France, signed on November 12 2009 and the Decision No. 2067/QD-TTg dated December 9 2009 of the Prime Minister.

As an international public university with a new model of organization and operation, USTH is offering teaching programs in association with plenty of practical exercises and internships at USTH and our partners’ laboratories, such as: research centres, enterprises in Vietnam and abroad. USTH is strongly supported in the academic field through a French consortium of over fourty higher education and research institutions and by the French government. USTH plans to increase its student number and to develop strong interactions between education, research and industry.

  1. Objectives of the assignment

The Water, Environment, Oceanography (WEO) Department and the Space and Aeronautics (SA) Department of USTH is building together the LOTUS laboratory project (study center of the Land-Ocean-aTmosphere coUpled System), that aims to develop training and research for the study of the cycle of water and associated matter in this system.

WEO Department activity focuses on the river to oceanic parts and the LOTUS project will include all the scientific themes of the WEO Department, namely water quality, hydrology, and oceanography. Senior lecturer-researcher of the WEO Department will correspond to this long term strategy, as well as to an identified need in terms of staff management.

  1. Scope of Work

Main responsibilities include but are not limited to the followings:

  • Lead the management of the Water Analysis laboratory under the WEO Department.
  • Drive its research team on Quality of Natural Waters in connection with the Hydrology- Oceanography team.
  • Manage an analytical laboratory with different high-performance tools for inorganic and organic chemicals, which USTH is building.
  • Manage the sharing of the above laboratories with other USTH Departments.
  • Share experience with colleagues from other USTH Departments to develop joint research projects with Vietnamese and international organizations.
  • Develop and manage projects in the Department in order to increase the USTH recognition and to get excellent level.
  • Perform the teaching tasks as assigned.
  • Perform others tasks assigned or required by the Directors of the Department and the Rectorate Board.
  1. Qualifications, skill and experience requirements
    • Having the doctoral degree on related fields.
    • At least 10 years’ experience with excellent record of publications in international peer reviewed scientific journals.
    • Experience in teaching and managing study program, diploma and students.
    • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team including specialists of water chemistry, aquatic chemistry, biogeochemistry, and hydrology.
    • High ability in analytical chemistry by managing analysis laboratory and its different tools.
    • Experience in developing analytical methods/techniques and field sampling.
    • Links or networking with analytical equipment companies.
    • Experience in developing physical-chemical sensors for in-situ measurement associated to field investigations.
    • Capability of supervising Master and PhD thesis at international level.
    • Experience of work in internationally recognized teams.
    • History of leadership and principal investigator of several international research projects.
    • Belonging to international network and having collaborations in research and/or teaching (European or ASEAN international experience will be preferred).
    • Proficient in Vietnamese and English.
    • Evidence of teaching in English.
