USTH, Vietnam Airlines,Airbus, ENAC, IAS join hands to train aircraft engineers

In order to compensate the big deficiency and imperative demand for skilled and high-quality human resource in aviation industry, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi – USTH (also called Vietnam-France University) is one of the pioneers in Vietnam to launch the Bachelor programme in Aeronautical Engineering and the Master programme in International Air Transport Operations Management from the academic year 2018-2019 with a comprehensive cooperation with “big four” of Vietnam Aviation industry.

High demand for qualified airforce staff

According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Vietnam is among five markets with the highest growth of air passengers, after China, India and Indonesia. The increasing demand of air passengers has brought new job opportunities in this field. However, the aviation transportation of Vietnam has met only 40% of the human resource demand.

According to the development plan of airline companies, Vietnam is in need of 150 to 200 employees including aircraft engineers and flight technicians to the industry every year until 2020, said the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

In terms of facilities, Mr. Duong Tri Thanh - Director of Vietnam Airlines – said the national flag carrier currently owns over 100 aircraft and will add 50-70 aircraft from now to 2015. Especially, Vietnam Airlines imported a number of Airbus A350 aircraft to modernise its airplane crew in 2017. Besides, other airlines in Vietnam and in the region have been expanding their operation. Therefore, there will be high demand of graduates, postgraduates and engineers to enhance the aircraft operation ability and technical maintenance for safety.

However, compared to other countries in the region, the quality of human resource of Vietnam aviation industry is at an average level in terms of specialised knowledge and capacity while working and soft skills only meet short-term demand. In addition, one of prerequisites for airforce employees is a good command of English. However, in fact, many aviation students do not meet this criterion. As a result, it is imperative to implement aviation programmes to provide qualified staff for this industry.

USTH, aviation’s big four join hands to launch Aeronautical Engineering Programme

In order to compensate the big deficiency and imperative demand for high-skilled staff of the aviation industry, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi – USTH (also called Vietnam-France University) is going to launch the Bachelor programme in Aeronautical Engineering and the Master programme in International Air Transport Operations Management from the academic year 2018-2019. The programmes are designed with strong support of Airbus Corporation and a comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam Aviation Corporation or Vietnam Airlines, Vietnam Airlines Engineering Company (VAECO), , French Civil Aviation University or  École nationale de l'aviation civile (ENAC) and Institut aéronautique et spatial (IAS).

The MoU signing ceremony between USTH, Vietnam Airlines and VAECO to launch the two programmes took place on December 15, 2017 in Hanoi.

The Bachelor programme in Aeronautical Engineering

The Bachelor programme in Aeronautics aims to train engineers with B1/B2 aircraft maintenance certificates issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam. With participation of European trainers, the programme, which consists of 30 months of theory and practice, focuses on Aircraft and System Maintenance, Technological Support and Control, Aircraft Condition and Quality as aviation operation. There will also be six-month internship at VAECO within the programme. Besides aircraft maintenance, students can study further about aeronautical engineering development and research.

Especially, according to the MoU, each year 30 students from the Bachelor programme in Aeronautical Engineering at USTH will be employed by Vietnam Airlines or VAECO for the first five courses. Also, Vietnam Airlines will provide USTH students with academic assistance and experimental tools as well as act as a place for USTH students to take their internship.

The Master programme in International Air Transport Operations Management

The Master program in International Air Transport Operations Management, designed according to the programme framework of the ENAC, aims to train engineers majoring in aviation engineering, regulations on international civil aviation, aviation environment, economics and management, aviation designing or aerobatics operation.

It focuses on Aircraft Engineering; Aviation System; Aviation Operation and Flight Safety Control; Business and Human Resource, System and Aircraft Maintenance Management. Graduates will be granted internationally-recognised certificates by ENAC and able to work at multinational airline companies around the world.

Designed in English, the programmes will help improve the foreign language skill of not only the Aeronautic Engineering students but also ones of other majors, since many Vietnamese students have failed to find major-related jobs due to their limited English skill.
