Meeting on the collaborative plan between USTH and Senghor University (Egypt)

On June 22nd, 2022, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) had a meeting with representatives of Senghor University (Egypt) on the collaborative plan in the coming time.

Participating in the meeting, on Senghor University’s side, was Prof. Thierry Verdel, Rector; on USTH's side, were Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest, Principal Rector, Dr. Nguyen Hai Dang, Vice Rector, Ms. To Minh Phuong, Head of Marketing, Communication and Brand Management Department, Ms. Pham Thi Thuy Ngan, International Cooperation Department Officer.

After introducing and welcoming the delegates attending the meeting, the two universities introduced their overview information, development plans and training programs.

Egypt’s Senghor University in Alexandria was set up following the 1989 summit of French-speaking countries in Dakar, Senegal, which decided to establish a French-language international university “in the service of African development” to train high-level managers, civil servants and governors at masters level.

Senghor University offers multidisciplinary and multi-thematic training on sustainable development in a context of globalization. The University leads development projects through the work of its students, weaving a network of skills and expertise through the professionalization of its auditors, continuing education and distance learning.

Senghor University, in Alexandria and its 10 other campuses in Africa and Europe, offers specialized masters and short courses to meet the needs of strengthening the development skills of executive specialists for Africa's development. It hosts about 200 students that are chosen after a selective competition involving more than 3,000 candidates from 25 different countries. It also offers 120 scholarships to follow the Master's program in development for 2 years.

University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) is a public university established in 2009 within the framework of the Intergovernmental Agreement between the two countries Vietnam and France with the orientation of becoming an excellent world-class university training in science and technology. The university is strongly supported by the French Government through a Consortium of more than 30 universities and research institutions in France. The USTH’s mission is to train quality human resources in the field of science - technology in order to develop research and promote technology transfer, to anticipate the future in terms of technological change and to become an excellent research university in the region, attracting talented international students.

Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest warmly greeted his counterpart "Our friendship brings us together here in Hanoi and I am happy to be able to present to you USTH which belongs to the great family of the Francophonie in which Senghor University is a major player and we are extremely proud to share the same values”.

After discussing the projects of each university, the rectors laid the beginnings of a collaboration in particular on the expansion of USTH as well as the Francophonie in Africa, and the excellence in training of two universities. "African needs are enormous and USTH has the ability to meet the needs in many fields" said Prof. Thierry Verdel. In addition, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest emphasized the importance of recruiting international students as it is necessary for the expansion plan and to promote student exchange in two universities. It is also a major strategic economic challenge for both USTH and Senghor University in the Asia and Africa area in the future.

At the end of the meeting, representatives of USTH and Senghor University both agreed to the initial cooperation suggestions and expressed their desire to build and develop a close long-term collaborative relationship and expect the success of future projects. They both look forward to upcoming meetings to discuss further more and start the cooperation plan soon.
