On February 19, 2025, right after launching its first International Research Project (IRP), the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) further expanded its strategic partnerships in France by signing two significant agreements with the National Institute of Applied Sciences of Lyon (INSA Lyon), one of France’s prestigious Grande Écoles for engineering education.
During a working visit to France, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest, Principal Rector of USTH, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Phong, Vice-Rector, met with representatives of INSA Lyon, including Mr. Frédéric Fotiadu, Director of INSA Lyon, Prof. Damien Fabrègue, Vice Director for International Relations, and Ms. Nathalie Niesiewicz, Project Manager for Asia.
This meeting marked the signing of two key cooperation agreements:
- A strategic cooperation framework agreement, laying the foundation for academic exchange, scientific research, and innovation initiatives between the two institutions.
- A student exchange agreement, providing USTH students with opportunities to study and gain hands-on experience at INSA Lyon, while also accessing France’s advanced engineering education model.

Founded in 1957, INSA Lyon is the oldest and largest institution within the INSA Group, which consists of seven engineering schools across France. The institution is renowned for producing highly skilled engineers with strong adaptability, innovative thinking, and a deep sense of social responsibility. Beyond scientific and technological expertise, INSA Lyon integrates philosophy, culture, and business management into its curriculum, offering a well-rounded education for future engineers.
The collaboration between USTH and INSA Lyon goes beyond student mobility programs. It also fosters research partnerships in energy transition, climate change, and health sciences, which are of strategic importance to both institutions. USTH is currently exploring the development of engineering programs, and INSA Lyon serves as a model for reference and adaptation.
The signing of these agreements is the result of close collaboration between USTH and INSA Lyon, with the invaluable support of Mr. Éric André, representative of the INSA Group in Vietnam.
This partnership marks a significant milestone in USTH’s strategy for developing engineering education, reinforcing its position within the global network of leading science and technology universities, and creating expanded opportunities for international learning and research for students and faculty alike.
