On November 18th, the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) held the solemn opening ceremony of the new academic year 2020-2021 and announced the new logo and brand identity.
The ceremony welcomed the attendance of Prof.Acad.Chau Van Minh, President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), Mr. Nicolas Warnery, French Ambassador to Vietnam, Prof.Dr. Phan Ngoc Minh, Vice President of VAST, Rector Board of USTH; representatives of domestic and foreign partners and the lectures, staff, current students, and new students of the 11th intake.
The opening ceremony not only sets the beginning of a new chapter in the academic journey of the new students at USTH but also is an opportunity for the lecturers, staff, and students to look back on the achievements over the last academic year, and set new goals for the upcoming academic year.
At the ceremony, Prof. Etienne Saur – Principal Rector of USTH indicated that the academic year 2019-2020, despite facing many challenges due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, USTH has applied modern technology to combine direct and online teaching to ensure epidemic prevention and complete the university’s missions.
Regarding training, the number of students enrolled in 2020 increased by 50% compared to 2019. USTH has opened one new program – Mechatronics Engineering and Technology, increasing the total number of training majors to 16. Regarding research, the University has published 135 articles, including 93 articles in SCIE journals, up 1.5 times compared to 2019.
On this occasion, Prof. Etienne Saur sent a message to over 400 new students: “Entering the university is an honor, marking an important stage in life, but also an important responsibility, I hope you will strive with all the enthusiasm, creativity and excitement of youth. Be persistent, passionate and live life with purpose. And remember, when studying at USTH, you always have us by your side as your teacher, your companion, your trusted friend, inspiring you to overcome all the difficulties and challenges in the journey of conquering knowledge and turning your dreams into reality”.
Recognizing the results USTH has achieved, Assoc.Acad. Chau Van Minh congratulates all staff, faculty, and students of the University. Prof. Chau Van Minh said that, although “USTH has undergone 11 years of establishment and development, which is still a short time to build an international research university in the field of science from the beginning, the University has gained significant achievements in training and scientific research ”. He hopes that the new academic year 2021-2022 will be a successful year for USTH’s lectures and students.
On behalf of the Embassy of France in Vietnam, Mr. Nicolas Warnery emphasized that after 11 years of establishment and development, USTH has become a trusted name in training and research. Mr. Nicolas Warnery believes that “USTH will continue to help students to become outstanding experts, researchers in the field of science of technology, managers, and leaders of international research groups who represent the sustainable cooperation between the two Governments of Vietnam and France “.
Also during the Opening Ceremony, USTH announced a new logo and brand identity, marking an important milestone in the University’s development.
Inspired by the national flags of Vietnam and France, with a modern and strong design, clearly portraying the core values of the university’s training and research activities, and especially the long-lasting cooperation relationship between the Governments of France and Vietnam in the construction and development of USTH.
Assoc. Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, Rector of USTH said: “USTH was established in 2009 under the Intergovernmental Agreement between Vietnam and France. Over the first 10 years of establishment and development, USTH made the decision to change a new logo and brand identity in order to affirm its own copyright and hopefully to create a unique, stronger imprint in the Vietnamese and international education systems, contributing to the development of the university towards the goal of becoming a world-class publish university as the expectation of the government of Vietnam and the government of France.
At the opening ceremony, on behalf of USTH, the Rector Board awarded scholarships to students, students, and researchers with outstanding academic achievements. There are 2 full scholarships worth 294 million VND per scholarship, 141 excellent scholarships worth from 10 to 40 million VND/ per year for undergraduates and master students, 15 million VND/ per year for doctoral students, and 24 internship scholarships. The total value of the scholarships awarded is 4.5 billion VND.
Besides USTH’s scholarships, the university also receives sponsorship from our partners namely: Agribank awarded scholarships to new students with excellent results, and Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam, Thang Long branch awarded scholarships to support 2 students with difficult circumstances.
Also at the opening ceremony, Mrs. Vu Thanh Hang (the parent of Dang Vu Quy Dac, 3rd-year student, Department of Water, Environment, and Oceanography) sponsored 2 scholarships worth 20.5 million VND for 2 students with difficult circumstances which support them to complete their bachelor’s degrees.
At the end of the ceremony, Prof. Etienne Saur – Principal Rector has beaten the drum to officially open the new academic year with high excitement and determination.
