With a 97% graduate employment and pursuing higher education rate, an international learning environment, and a strong network of academic and industry partners, the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) is increasingly becoming a preferred choice for Vietnamese families and international students alike.
Combining academic excellence, global exposure, and affordable tuition, USTH continues to attract students seeking high-quality education and strong career prospects.
For 22-year-old Quentin Ghenassia, a fourth-year agronomy engineering student from Toulouse, France, choosing USTH for his research internship in agroecology was a carefully considered decision.
“For me, it was an opportunity to work in a fascinating field: rice cultivation,” he says.

His internship focuses on developing agroecological approaches to rice farming, including plant varieties that help reduce methane emissions and improve phosphate bioavailability—research that contributes to the development of more sustainable rice production systems.
Quentin describes his decision as “a strategic choice,” driven by the strong alignment between his academic background and the research project offered by USTH. The university’s scientific expertise was another key factor. USTH has developed recognized strengths in rice genomics and collaborates with leading international research institutions such as the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD), the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), and the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD).
Pham Minh Duc, a graduate of USTH’s Aeronautical Engineering program, now works as a Ground Load Control Supervisor at Vietjet Air.
“I chose USTH because it is one of Vietnam’s leading international public universities and benefits from strong support from French partner universities as well as major industry players such as Airbus, Boeing, and Vietnam Airlines,” he explains.
For Duc, studying entirely in English was a significant advantage.
“English is the global language of aviation. Having completed my entire program in English gave me the confidence to read and understand technical documentation from Airbus and Boeing with ease.”
USTH also instilled in him the importance of professionalism and precision.
“Discipline and attention to detail have helped me develop a safety-first mindset. In aviation, even the smallest mistake can have serious consequences,” he emphasizes.
His degree also proved invaluable when entering the job market.
“Human resources managers told me that my degree was highly relevant to the position and matched the job requirements perfectly.”

Parents’ perspective: trust, quality, and high standards
Laure and Didier Ghenassia supported their son Quentin’s decision to undertake an internship in Vietnam while encouraging him to take ownership of his own academic journey.
“We approached this opportunity through open discussion and mutual trust. For us, it was important that he experience a demanding academic environment while discovering different ways of working, thinking, and collaborating,” they explain.
The quality of the internship itself was their primary consideration, particularly the opportunity to work with a respected researcher recognized internationally in her field.
“The university’s reputation and the credibility of its research environment were extremely reassuring factors for us as parents,” they add.
They first learned about USTH through friends living in Hanoi, who spoke highly of the institution’s academic standards and the quality of student supervision.
“Their positive feedback about life in Hanoi, including safety, affordability, and living conditions, also gave us confidence,” they note.
Based on Quentin’s experience, Laure and Didier now describe USTH as “a dynamic and modern university committed to international scientific excellence.”
Beyond academic and professional development, they believe the experience is helping their son develop valuable personal qualities, including cultural awareness, adaptability, and language skills that will benefit him throughout his career.

“We would absolutely recommend USTH to other parents,” they say.
Mai Hanh, mother of Pham Minh Duc, shares a similarly positive view.
“I believe USTH provides an educational environment that reflects international trends. The university not only focuses on specialized knowledge but also places great emphasis on foreign-language proficiency and academic excellence.”
The fact that the program was taught entirely in English was a decisive factor for her family.
“I consider this a major advantage for students entering the workforce, especially in technical and technological fields that operate in international environments.”
What reassured her most was the university’s strong commitment to student support.
“Whenever issues related to academics or administrative procedures arose, families were informed very quickly. I found the staff to be highly dedicated and supportive.”
She is particularly satisfied with the level of English proficiency her son achieved and the practical nature of the training.
“My son completed his studies entirely in English, which significantly strengthened his language skills. After graduation, he scored more than 905 out of 990 on the TOEIC test. According to teachers and employers, this is an excellent result.”

Encouraging outcomes
Many other Vietnamese families have shared similarly positive experiences with USTH.
Tran Thi Khanh Van, mother of Nguyen Tuan Minh, a third-year student enrolled in the double-degree program in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), comes from a Francophone family.
“My husband works as an IT specialist at the French Institute in Vietnam, and I work at the Embassy of Switzerland in Vietnam,” she explains.
For her, supporting her children means helping them make informed decisions rather than making decisions on their behalf.
“My role was mainly to listen, exchange ideas, ask the right questions, and help them better understand their options.”
She spent considerable time researching different universities, comparing academic quality, learning environments, international opportunities, and graduate employability.
“Gradually, USTH emerged as the obvious choice.”
The double-degree program was particularly appealing.
“It offers students a genuine international experience and real opportunities for further study or employment abroad, without requiring them to leave Vietnam immediately after high school.”
What reassured her most was seeing that students receive comprehensive support throughout their studies, alongside rigorous academic training.
“Through my son’s experience, I see USTH as a young but highly dynamic university that is modern, ambitious, and deeply international in outlook.”

A Transformative academic and personal experience
Now studying in the double-degree ICT program at the University of Lille in France, 20-year-old Nguyen Tuan Minh says his education at USTH has prepared him well for international study.
“Studying computer science in English from the very beginning has been incredibly helpful. It is a real advantage when studying or working in an international environment.”
Beyond technical knowledge, he says USTH helped him develop broader perspectives and essential life skills.
“I learned the importance of international openness. I also learned how to work with people from different cultural backgrounds, adapt to change, and respect different viewpoints.”
For Minh, the university experience was about much more than academic learning.
“USTH helped me become more independent, adaptable, and open-minded.”
Among his most cherished memories are the French-language classes he attended with fellow students in the double-degree program.
“What I remember most is not the certificates I earned, but the friendships, the mutual support among students, and the encouragement we received from our French teachers,” he recalls.
Hue Dang, whose son graduated from USTH’s Information Technology program, highlights the ease with which he transitioned into professional life.
“What impressed me most was how quickly my son adapted to the workplace and secured a job in his field.”
For her, USTH stands out because of its distinctive educational model.
“It combines academic rigor, strong international engagement, and a practical approach to education aligned with European standards. Few universities in Vietnam offer such a unique combination.”
“I would wholeheartedly recommend USTH. In fact, I have already recommended it to colleagues and family members,” she says.
“I sincerely believe USTH is an excellent choice for families seeking a serious, internationally oriented, and future-focused education.”
USTH continues to strengthen its reputation as a leading hub for science and technology education, offering students a dynamic international environment and providing families with confidence in the quality of their children’s education.
