From April 12 to 18, 2026, the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) delegation conducted a working visit to South Korea. The mission opened up new avenues for collaboration in education and research within high-tech sectors such as semiconductors, AI, and life sciences.
Led by Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, Rector of USTH, the delegation formed part of the university’s efforts to advance its internationalization strategy and reinforce the link between academic training and high-level research.
Connecting with Science and Technology “Giants”
During an intensive working week, the USTH delegation held working sessions with prestigious South Korean partners, including the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and the University of Science and Technology (UST). The delegation also met with UST’s degree-awarding partners: the Korea Food Research Institute (KFRI), the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB), and the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM). These organizations play a leading role in South Korea’s education, scientific research, and innovation ecosystems. Additionally, the mission included visits to Kyungpook National University (KNU) and PCEM Korea Co., Ltd.
During these meetings, USTH leaders and partners agreed on a roadmap for long-term collaboration. Discussions focused on high-demand technology sectors in the global labor market, including Semiconductor Technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Materials Science, Environment, Renewable Energy, Biotechnology, and Food Technology.
Milestones in Partnership: The Signing of MoUs
A key highlight of the trip was the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between USTH and KIST, UST, and its member institutes. These agreements serve as a foundation for joint research projects, allowing USTH lecturers and students to directly access some of the most advanced laboratory systems in the region.

Notably, through these working sessions, USTH and its partners shared and benchmarked advanced university governance models. Both sides engaged in deep discussions on optimizing the “Golden Triangle” model: Education – Research – Industry. Exchanging insights on operating innovation ecosystems helped the parties identify common ground, paving the way for the implementation of modern management standards at USTH.

Creating Breakthroughs for High-Quality Human Resources
The mission also unlocked new privileges for students. South Korean partners committed to collaborating with USTH to provide valuable scholarships and internship placements in international projects. In particular, the joint-supervision programs for Master’s and PhD students will be promoted, reflecting the trust of South Korean partners in the training quality and research capacity of USTH lecturers.
The close ties with South Korea demonstrate USTH’s commitment to staying ahead of global scientific trends. Following the visit, USTH will immediately begin implementing the signed agreements, bringing students and young scientists closer to a world-class research environment.
The success of this mission once again affirms the stature of USTH—a university that proactively expands its collaborative horizons, playing a pivotal role in training high-level science and technology human resources for Vietnam.
