On July 10, 2026, the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) and Tay Nguyen University (TNU) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), establishing a new framework for long-term cooperation in education, scientific research, and the development of high-quality human resources.
The signing ceremony was attended by representatives of both universities. USTH was represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Phong, Vice Rector, while TNU was represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Duc Niem, Vice Rector, together with representatives of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology and academic departments from both institutions.

The signing marks an important milestone in the partnership between the two universities, reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening academic cooperation, promoting scientific research, and leveraging their respective strengths to contribute to the advancement of higher education, science, and technology in Vietnam.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding, the two institutions will collaborate across a broad range of academic and research activities. The cooperation will include the exchange of faculty and researchers, exchange of undergraduate and/or graduate students, organisation of training programmes, internships and study visits, co-supervision of graduate students, and the exchange of academic information and materials. Both universities will also share facilities and laboratories to support teaching and research activities.
A key focus of the partnership is cooperation in the fields of Space Science and Astronomy. USTH and TNU will jointly implement research projects, collaborate in the development of astronomical observation equipment, and cooperate in training and providing high-quality human resources for the operation of TNU’s observatories. In addition, the two universities will work together to co-organise the International Astronomical Summer School 2026, specialised conferences and seminars, as well as other academic activities designed to foster collaboration among researchers, faculty members and students.
These collaborative initiatives will provide students from both institutions with expanded opportunities to engage in academic exchange, participate in research projects, gain hands-on experience, and broaden their academic and professional perspectives through inter-university collaboration.
For USTH, the partnership with TNU further reflects the University’s strategy of strengthening cooperation with leading domestic higher education institutions while expanding its international engagement. Established under the Intergovernmental Agreement between the Vietnamese Government and the French Government, USTH benefits from the strong support of a consortium of 30 French universities and research institutions. As a research-oriented university with institutional accreditation awarded by the High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERES), USTH is committed to sharing its academic and research strengths to develop impactful collaborative programmes with partners across Vietnam.

The two universities also agreed to establish a coordination mechanism to ensure the effective implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding while exploring additional areas of cooperation that align with the strategic priorities and long-term development goals of both institutions.

Established in 1977, Tay Nguyen University is a comprehensive multidisciplinary public university with the mission of providing high-quality human resources, conducting scientific research, and promoting technology transfer to contribute to the socio-economic development of the Central Highlands and Vietnam. The University offers education and research across a wide range of disciplines, including education, health sciences, agriculture and forestry, engineering and technology, economics, natural sciences, and social sciences, while striving to become a leading regional university and a national centre for research, innovation, and technology transfer.
USTH continues to expand its network of partnerships with universities, research institutions, organisations, and industry partners in Vietnam and around the world to enhance education, research, and innovation. Through strategic collaborations with higher education institutions, USTH aims to provide its students, graduate students, and doctoral candidates with greater opportunities for academic exchange, research collaboration, and professional development in an internationally connected learning environment.
