University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) would like to invite lecturers, researchers, experts, students and others to participate in the Seminar “Getting Published and Peer-Review: Why, How-To, and What Not To Do”, with Prof. T.Randall Lee, Associate Editor of the ACS Applied Nano Materials journal.
Getting a research published in international journals/magazines is considered as a landmark in the career path of the scientist, but not all journals are worthwhile. The more important their impact is, the harder it is to get published. For example, the New England Journal of Medicine, Science, Nature, Cell declined about 90-95% of papers submitted. In the field of medicine, JAMA journals, BMJ, Nature Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, Journal of Clinical Investigation have the rejection rate around 80-90%.
Peer-review is considered to be one of three most difficult stages of publishing a paper in international journals. This is the process of subjecting an author’s work to the scrutiny of experts in the same field, before this paper is published. Peer review is generally considered necessary to academic quality and is employed in most major scientific journals. This method helps ensure the quality of the paper, provide credibility and confirm the significant contribution of the research to the development of the field.
With a wealth of experience working as an editor of the Applied Nano Materials journal, Prof. Lee will share helpful tips to get peer-review and published.
ACS Applied Nano Materials is established by the Publications Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world’s largest science society. This is an interdisciplinary journal publishing new and original experimental and theoretical research of an applied nature that integrate knowledge in the areas of materials, engineering, physics, bioscience, and chemistry into important applications of nanomaterials. By providing high-qualified peer review and ensuring rapid editorial decisions, Applied Nano Materials becomes the “go-to” journal in the field for scientists who seek to communicate their highly valued research to a global audience.
Prof. Lee earned a Master and PhD degrees in Chemistry from Harvard University. He has authored or co-authored over 240 peer-reviewed articles in fundamental and applied research areas, with a primary focus on the preparation of new organic and inorganic materials for technological applications. In 1999, he received the Research Excellence Award of the University of Houston. From 2010, he has served as an Associate Editor of ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, and now the Deputy Editor of Applied Nano Materials. His sharing from the perspective of an editor would be valuable for not only lecturers and researchers but also USTH students, on their path to become future scientists.
