As an annual event to welcome new PhD students, Doctoral School organized the Meeting with PhD students of the Intake 2022-2025 on February 20th, 2023.
Attending the meeting was Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest, Principal Rector of USTH, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Viet Dung, Director and staffs of Doctoral School and new PhD students of the Intake 2022-2025.
Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest, Principal Rector of USTH welcomed and sent messages to new PhD students. Three years of studying for a doctoral degree are three special years in PhD students’ career and life which will contribute to the development of the scientific and technological industry in the future. Professor also highlighted the great benefits of studying at Doctoral School at USTH, that the programs offered by the Doctoral School correspond to the scientific fields covered by international laboratories at USTH.
Also at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Viet Dung introduced the PhD program, scholarships and professional opportunities. USTH Doctoral School was founded in 2014 with 6 majors: 1) Pharmacological, Medical and Agronomical Biotechnology; 2) Advanced Materials Science and Nanotechnology; 3) Water – Environment – Oceanography; 4) Information and Communication Technology; 5) Energy; and 6) Space and Applications. There are many scholarships such as Excellent Students, Pathway to Success, Capacity Building, Access Scholarship and opportunities for PhD students like joining the research team of supervisors or being teaching assistant or lab assistant. Especially, USTH is going to implement a stipend system for PhD students in order to help PhD students who do not have a permanent job and help other students with grant-in-aid.
At the end of the meeting, new PhD students were informed about Doctoral Training Regulations, courses and annual plan. The training program consists of 06 semesters corresponding to 36 months (for candidates holding a Master diploma) and 08 semesters corresponding to 48 months (for candidates holding a Bachelor diploma) counting from the date of issuance of the admission letter by Rector to each PhD student. PhD thesis work represents the most important part of the PhD training program. The thesis is the major factor for the evaluation of candidates in order to award the USTH PhD diploma.
