On March 1, 2024, the launching ceremony of USTH Innovation Hub (UIH) was successfully held, marking a significant milestone in the development of the university. It underscores USTH’s commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurial spirit among the staff, lecturers, and students.
Representatives from Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, French Embassy in Vietnam, National Innovation Center NIC, and representatives from many key partners in higher education, industry, and academia attended the ceremony.
In the opening speech, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest, Principal Rector of USTH emphasized the importance of UIH in the university’s strategy to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. He expressed his hope that UIH would serve as a catalyst for the development of new technologies and scientific products, thereby narrowing the gap between academia and industry. This collaboration between the two sectors is expected to boost the research quality and encourage the real-world application of innovative solutions.
According to Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest, UIH aims to become more than just a resource for USTH’s staff, lecturers, and students. It is designed to draw support and collaboration from businesses and other institutions. UIH seeks to become an ideal destination for top talents who are passionate about innovation, aligning with the USTH ‘s mission and strategic goals.
Dr. To Thi Mai Huong, Deputy Director of Research, Innovation and Technology Transfer and Head of Interim Executive Board of UIH presented the promotion of innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem at USTH.
According to Dr. To Thi Mai Huong, USTH is an international public university with the mission of training high-quality human resources in the field of science and technology for Vietnam’s economic development. Therefore, the university focuses on promoting applied research, expanding cooperation networks with business partners, enhancing intellectual property activities, and encouraging the establishment of startups among the staff, lecturers, and students. UIH will serve as an important link to connect and promote research, application, and entrepreneurship activities at USTH.
The event also featured insights from two successful entrepreneurs: Mr. Nguyen Tuan Duong, Director of Vietnam Gut Health Company, and Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, a USTH alumnus and CEO of YITEC Technology Research and Development Company. They shared their entrepreneurial journeys, challenges faced, and valuable lessons learned.
The launch was officiated by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, led by Ms. Sophie Maysonnave – Counsellor for Cooperation and Cultural Activities, French Embassy in Vietnam; Assoc. Prof. Phan Tien Dung – Head of Technology Application and Deployment, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest, Principal Rector of USTH, and Dr. To Thi Mai Huong – Head of Interim Executive Board of UIH.
With UIH’s establishment, USTH looks forward to contributing significantly to the development of Vietnam’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem, benefiting not only the university but also the wider community.
