On January 11th, 2022, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) held the Internship and Career Fair 2022 Opening Ceremony with the participation of a large number of students, parents and high school students who are interested in the training programs of the University.
At USTH, final year undergraduate and master students will have to do a compulsory 3-6 month internship at universities, research institutions and enterprises in Vietnam, France and many other countries. In order to provide useful and necessary information related to the internship for students, and at the same time to connect students with prestigious employers in the field of science – technology – engineering, USTH organizes the Internship Day as an annual activity starting from 2018.
In 2022, with close coordination from academic departments and strong participation from employers, in order to give more detailed and specific advice to students of each department, USTH decided to increase the duration of the event that the Internship and Career Fair 2022 lasted for 5 days from January 11 to January 15, 2022. The event shared advice from representatives of more than 17 businesses, research institutes and successful alumni and teachers from 7 academic departments, International Cooperation Department, Student Affairs Department and Academic Affairs Department. In particular, this is also the first year the event welcomes parents and high school students with the hope that it will help candidates have a clearer view of training programs and future career prospects.
Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the event was organized online via the Zoom platform but still attracted the attention and registration of a large number of students and parents.
Attending the opening ceremony on January 11, 2022 were Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest – Principal Rector, Dr. Nguyen Hai Dang – Vice Rector of USTH and representatives of relevant departments.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest emphasized: “I hope all students realize the importance of the internship for their future careers because this is an opportunity for them to experience the real working environment, know better about the field of technology and scientific research, and at the same time be equipped with practical knowledge and skills to enter the labor market. Moreover, the internship plays an important role in finding their first job after graduation.”
Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest also thanked representatives of businesses and research institutes for being present during the Internship and Career Fair 2022 because this is the recognition and trust for the training programs of the University.
Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest sent a message to the students before entering the internship period: “When you intern at organizations and businesses, you are USTH’s brand ambassadors, representing the image and reputation of the university. I believe that you will contribute to building and spreading a beautiful image of USTH”.
At the ceremony, the Rector Board awarded 29 internship scholarships ranging from VND 10,000,000 to VND 40,000,000 to undergraduate and master students with excellent academic achievements in order to motivate and support them during this important time.
Ms. Do Thi Thuy Trang, Deputy Head of International Cooperation Department introduced the overview, important milestones and guided students the procedures they need to complete before, during and after the internship. Accordingly, undergraduate and master students at USTH will begin their graduation internship in April every year. For undergraduate students, the internship period will last from 3-6 months depending on their training program, corresponding to 9-15 credits. For master students, the internship period will last 6 months, corresponding to 30 credits. Foreign internship-oriented students need to actively connect with instructors and internship recipients to complete the paperwork and apply for a visa early to avoid delays in the process, especially in this current pandemic situation. Ms. Thuy Trang also emphasized that during the internship, students should contact their department and instructors for support if they have any difficulty.
At the end of the opening ceremony, representatives of the International Cooperation Department, Student Affairs Department and Academic Affairs Department had a sharing and Q&A session to answer questions from high school students, university students and parents.
