On August 21, 2024, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) hosted a heartfelt farewell event to honor the significant contributions of Mr. Luc Le Calvez, Director of the Department of Research, Innovation, and Technology Transfer (DRITT), and Dr. Sylvain Ouillon, Director of the Department of Water – Environment – Oceanography (WEO).
The event was attended by the Rector Board, directors of both administrative and academic departments, and numerous staff and lecturers.
Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, Rector of USTH, commended Mr. Luc Le Calvez for his visionary leadership during his five-year tenure at USTH. Under his leadership, USTH witnessed a remarkable surge in both the quality and quantity of its research outputs. Thanks to his tireless efforts, USTH has risen into the top three institutes within the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), successfully established strong research groups, and tripled the funding in research activities.
Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh also expressed her profound appreciation for Dr. Sylvain Ouillon, who is one of USTH’s most dedicated and long-serving French lecturers and scientists. With over 12 years of unwavering commitment to the university, he has shaped the growth and success of the Department of Water – Environment – Oceanography.
Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest – Principal Rector of USTH took this opportunity to thank Mr. Luc Le Calvez and Dr. Sylvain Ouillon. He highlighted Dr. Ouillon’s role in mentoring new lecturers and his key role in the PLUME project, an important initiative for the university. Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest acknowledged Mr. Luc Le Calvez’s vital role in pushing the university’s research to meet international standards.
As Mr. Luc Le Calvez and Dr. Sylvain Ouillon prepare to assume new roles at IRD, one of USTH’s most important French partners, Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh and Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest expressed hopes that they would continue to support and collaborate with USTH.
Colleagues from the Dritt, WEO, and other departments also shared personal reflections and memories, illustrating the lasting impact both leaders have had on their professional and personal lives. These stories highlighted the deep personal connections and the impact Mr. Luc Le Calvez and Dr. Sylvain Ouillon have fostered within the USTH community.
The farewell event was not only a celebration of past achievements but also a hopeful look forward to new beginnings for Mr. Luc Le Calvez and Dr. Sylvain Ouillon. The USTH community extended their best wishes for their future endeavors, confident that their legacy would continue to inspire and influence USTH for years to come.
