On May 23, 2023, at University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH), Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) held a solemn ceremony to confer the diploma of Doctor Honoris Causa upon Prof. Bernard Legube, former President of the USTH Consortium, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the training and research activities between Vietnam and France.
Among the distinguished attendees were Acad. Prof. Chau Van Minh, President of VAST, Prof. Chu Hoang Ha, Vice President of VAST; Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest, Principal Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, Rector of USTH; members of the USTH Consortium; as well as French and Vietnamese leaders from academic departments.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Tran Dinh Phong, Vice Rector of USTH reviewed the biography and contributions of Prof. Bernard Legube.
His involvement in joint research projects between Vietnam and France dates back to 1999. Due to his extensive experience working alongside Vietnamese partners, he was invited to serve as Vice President in 2010 when the USTH Consortium was established to support USTH’s development. Later, in 2014, he was appointed as President.
Prof. Bernard Legube’s significant contributions have played a pivotal role in numerous important projects throughout USTH’s development. These include the recognition of USTH’s master’s programs by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the successful implementation of Aeronautical training programs in collaboration with Airbus, Vietnam Airlines, VAECO, and the French Institute of Aviation (Bricks) in 2017, the signing of the Intergovernmental Agreement between Vietnam and France in 2019, and the establishment of double degree bachelor’s programs in cooperation with members of the USTH Consortium in 2022.
At the ceremony, Prof. Chau Van Minh expressed high regard for Prof. Bernard Legube’s invaluable contributions to the training and research activities of USTH and VAST as a whole. He conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to Professor Bernard Legube for his unwavering dedication over the past two decades, fostering the collaborative relationship between Vietnam and France.
Furthermore, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest, the Principal Rector of USTH emphasized the crucial role of the USTH Consortium in the university’s advancement. With a network of more than 30 French universities and research institutes, the USTH Consortium has strongly supported USTH in training and research, laying a solid foundation for the university’s progress since its establishment. Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest extended his profound gratitude to Prof. Bernard Legube for his contributions while serving as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the USTH Consortium.
In the solemn atmosphere of the ceremony, Prof. Bernard Legube expressed his appreciation for the kind sentiments shown by Vietnamese scientists, colleagues, and friends throughout his more than a 20-year journey with VAST and 12-year adventure with USTH.
He expressed his honor and gratitude to Prof. Chau Van Minh, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest, and Assoc. Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh for being awarded the honorary title of “Doctor” by VAST. He emphasized that the USTH Consortium’s remarkable success over the past 12 years is a result of the collaborative efforts, dedication, and commitment of colleagues from both Vietnam and France.
He highly praised the USTH Consortium for contributing significantly not only to the development of USTH but also to the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and France. He expressed his hope that VAST, the next generations of USTH leaders and colleagues from both countries will continue their efforts to promote the development of the USTH Consortium in the years to come.
