A meeting to review task performances in 2017 and map out orientations in 2018 was held by University of Science and Technology of Hanoi – USTH (also called Vietnam France University) on February 2nd 2018.
The meeting was attended by guests from Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Prof. Patrick Boiron – Rector of USTH, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ngo Duc Thanh – Vice Rectors of USTH, Mr. Gerard Gasquet – Director of USTH Administration as well as lecturers and officials of the university.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Patrick Boiron expressed his gratitude to all officials and lecturers together with their efforts that resulted in achievements of USTH in 2017, and wished for more accomplishments in 2018.
According to the university’s report, in the academic year 2016-2017, USTH gained a number of of successes in a various fields compared to the previous year.
In the field of admission and training, the number of Bachelor students enrolled in 2017 increased by 25% against 2016. Meanwhile, that of students who took internship overseas upped 38.5% in the reviewed time.
In April 2017, six Bachelor training programmes of the university were officially awarded the Accreditation Decision to the European standard by The High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERES) for the period of five years from April 2017- April 2022.
On December 15th, 2017, USTH offcially signed a cooperative agreement with Vietnam Aviation Corporation or Vietnam Airlines and Vietnam Airlines Engineering Company (VAECO) to launch the Bachelor programme in Aeronautical Engineering and the Master programme in International Air Transport Operations Management from the academic year 2018-2019. Besides the comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam Airlines and VAECO, the two programmes are also strongly supported by the Airbus Corporation, the French Civl Aviation University or École nationale de l’aviation civile (ENAC) and Institut aéronautique et spatial (IAS).
In terms of scientific research, USTH witnessed an increase of joint international laboratories to 9 and organised 10 international workshops. The number of publications on ISI-standard international journals was 36, with six on international journals and 10 on national journals. The university was proud to be listed among 10 universities and research institutes in Vietnam for the highest amount of high quality scientific articles by Nature Index with Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
When it comes to international cooperation, USTH signed 30 memoranda of understanding and cooperative agreements with international and domestic partners; welcomed 35 international groups and sent 31 groups to abroad for working purpose.
Besides, the university also upgraded its facilities, restructured departments and issued internal expenditure regulations.
In terms of 2018 orientations, USTH plans to expand its training scale with five new Bachelor programmes, namely Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Cyber Security, Engineering Physics and Electronics, Aeronautical Engineering and the Master programme in Air Transport Operations Management. It will also open an English intensive programme for students whose English needs improving.
USTH also expects to publish 50 articles on IST-standard journals; expand its cooperation with VAST specialised research institutes; promote the implementation of signed agreements with domestic and international partners; welcome 30 working groups and 200 arrivals of French professors as well as scientific conferences with participation of international partners, especially France
Within the framework of the meeting, participants heard a number of reports on Trade Union and Finance to understand better the task performance and result of the university over the past year exchanged constructive opinions and elected the group of People Inspection of the university.
During the meeeting, USTH also granted merits to outstanding individuals and departments and launched an emulation movement to encourage individuals and groups to work better and more effectively for the development of the university.
With accomplishment in 2017, USTH is determined to work on the 2018 plan, thus making USTH one of leading education and research facility in the field of science and technology in Hanoi as well as Vietnam.
