Representatives of University of Science and Technology of Hanoi – USTH (also called Vietnam France University) have won one First Prize and four Second Prizes at the four-day competition of National Chemistry Olympiad for Students 2018, held at Hanoi University of Technology from April 14-18, 2018 .
This year, USTH team competed at the B table – the category for universities of advanced training in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.
Despite the first time participating the competition and a short amount of time for preparation, the USTH team of five excellently claimed one First Prize and four Second Prizes. Of which, the First Prize belonged to Nguyen Duy Thai – Foundation Year Student of the 2017-2020 course.
Four Second Prizes were awarded to Do Hoang Anh – Foundation Year Student of the 2017-2020 course; Nguyen Thanh Duong – Second Year Student of Water-Environment-Oceanography and Nguyen Thi Hong Van and Dam The An – Second Year Students of Advanced Materials Science and Nanotechnology.
Being held every two years, the National Chemistry Olympiad is a competition for students majoring in Chemistry and Chemical Technology.
In 2018, the 10th competition was held at the Institute of Chemical Engineering of Hanoi University of Technology, attracting participation of 266 contestants and nearly 150 teachers from 41 Universities of various fields such as Pedagogy, Natural Sciences, Engineering – Technology, Medicine, Agriculture – Forestry – Fisheries, Construction, Defense – Security throughout the country.
The competition offers a platform for students from all over the country to show their talents and knowledge as well as to meet and learn from other youngsters, thus foster their passion for Chemistry and other fundamental sciences.
It is also a venue for universities’ lecturers and staff to exchange experiences in teaching and conducting research.
Previously, USTH team attending the National Mathematical Olympiad 26 for Students and Pupils in Quang Binh province grabbed one gold, two silvers and one bronze.
Chemistry is one of the fundamental sciences that USTH is striving to develop. From the 2018-2019 academic year, USTH offers an undergraduate training program in Chemistry developed by the American Chemical Society, in order to provide high quality human resources that meet the market demand.
