In September and October 2026, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Hai Dang and Assoc. Prof. Tran Dinh Phong, Vice Rectors of the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH), visited China and Japan to explore opportunities for collaboration with partner universities in training, scientific research, and academic exchange.
The visits aimed to expand USTH’s international partnerships, foster connections between researchers and academic communities, and build on the complementary strengths of the institutions to develop future cooperation.
Strengthening research and education partnerships in China
From 24 to 30 September 2026, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Hai Dang, Vice Rector of USTH, led a delegation on a working visit to partner institutions in Foshan, Shenzhen and Nanning, China. The delegation met with representatives from Foshan University, Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS) and Guangxi University.

During the meetings, the delegation introduced USTH’s academic programs and research capabilities and explored opportunities for collaboration in life sciences, medicinal plants, pharmaceutical chemistry, biotechnology, plant sciences and food technology.

At Guangxi University, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Hai Dang delivered a seminar on research into plant-based drug development and plant sciences. Assoc. Prof. To Thi Mai Huong, Deputy Director in charge of USTH’s Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, also presented her research on the mechanisms underlying rice responses to abiotic stress. The seminars provided a platform for scientific exchange and helped identify potential areas for collaborative research in the life sciences.

The discussions also covered the development of joint academic programs, faculty and student exchanges, and the establishment of collaborative laboratories. These initiatives would help strengthen the links between training, scientific research and technological applications.
Exploring cooperation with Hiroshima University, Japan
From 7 to 10 October 2026, Assoc. Prof. Tran Dinh Phong, Vice Rector of USTH, visited Hiroshima University, Japan, to discuss opportunities for academic and research collaboration.
In a meeting with Prof. Shinji Kaneko, Member of the Executive Board and Vice President for International Affairs at Hiroshima University, the two sides discussed potential cooperation in training, scientific research, and faculty and student exchanges. Following the discussions, Prof. Shinji Kaneko proposed that the two universities explore the development and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with environmental science, energy, mechatronics, and semiconductor technology identified as priority areas.

During the visit, Assoc. Prof. Tran Dinh Phong also met with research groups at Hiroshima University to explore opportunities for collaboration in hydrogen energy, materials for energy conversion and storage, and environmental science. At the IDEC Institute, he delivered a seminar on USTH’s research in environmental science and energy.
These initial exchanges laid the foundation for closer ties between research groups, further scientific collaboration and expanded opportunities for student exchanges between the two universities.
The visits provided a valuable opportunity for USTH to exchange academic expertise, connect research teams and identify potential areas of collaboration based on the complementary strengths of the partner institutions.
Building on these initial engagements, USTH will seek to formalize partnerships with universities in Japan and China and develop concrete joint initiatives in training, research and academic exchange. These efforts will support the University’s continued development of high-quality training and research in line with its international strategy.
