On September 25, 2026, in Hanoi, within the framework of the cooperation signing ceremony between the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and Vingroup, the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) and VinUniversity (VinUni) signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen collaboration in education and research, promote innovation and entrepreneurship, and contribute to the development of a University–Research Institute–Enterprise ecosystem.
The ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Commission, and President of VAST; Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha, Vice President of VAST; Dr. Le Sy Tung, Deputy Secretary of the VAST Party Committee; together with leaders of VAST-affiliated institutes and scientists.

Representing USTH were Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, Rector of USTH; Dr. Hoang Trung Kien, Director of the Department of Technology and Engineering; and Ms. Do Thuy Trang, Deputy Head of the Department of Research and International Affairs.
Representing Vingroup were Dr. Le Mai Lan, Vice Chairwoman of Vingroup and Chairwoman of the VinUniversity Council; Prof. Tan Yap Peng, Provost of VinUniversity; and Mr. Vu Trong Thu, Chief Executive Officer of VinSpace Joint Stock Company, together with representatives of Vingroup’s affiliated companies and universities.
Under the cooperation agreement, VAST and Vingroup will collaborate on basic and applied research programs to strengthen technological capabilities, promote innovation, and facilitate the application of research outcomes. Priority areas include artificial intelligence, data science and big data, digital technologies, optoelectronics, robotics and automation, materials science and environmental technologies, space technology and aeronautical engineering, health sciences, and biotechnology.

The two sides will establish joint research groups involving their affiliated institutes and units, with a focus on research projects with potential for practical application. They will also cooperate in addressing scientific and technological challenges of national and international significance.
VAST and Vingroup will facilitate the sharing and joint use of academic resources, technical infrastructure, and research data. The connection of these resources is expected to enhance the efficiency of investment in science and technology, strengthen research capacity, and facilitate closer links between research activities and practical needs.
The cooperation also covers the training of master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral researchers through co-supervision and joint supervision, as well as the organization of national and international scientific conferences, seminars, and workshops.

The partnership brings together the complementary strengths of VAST, including its network of research institutes, scientific expertise, and research infrastructure, and Vingroup’s capabilities in research, production, technology development, and commercialization. Through this cooperation, the two sides aim to contribute to the development of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation in Vietnam.
As part of the ceremony, USTH and VinUni signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen collaboration in training, scientific research, and technology development.
The two universities will cooperate in research and technology development in areas including renewable energy, smart cities, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, advanced materials and nanotechnology, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, medicine and pharmaceuticals, and personalized healthcare.
The agreement also provides a framework for the two universities to jointly propose and co-fund science, technology, and innovation projects addressing practical challenges. USTH and VinUni will also coordinate the organization of national and international conferences, workshops, and scientific schools, contributing to the exchange of knowledge and the development of research networks.

In training, the two universities will expand student and faculty exchanges and cooperate in curriculum development and credit recognition, particularly at the undergraduate and master’s levels. They will also explore joint training opportunities for master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral researchers through co-supervision and joint supervision, creating additional opportunities for academic exchange and research collaboration.
Beyond academic and research activities, USTH and VinUni will jointly organize training, professional development, capacity-building, and experience-sharing programs for leaders and managers of higher education institutions. Areas of cooperation will include university governance, institutional autonomy, digital transformation, quality assurance, internationalization, and innovation development.
Building on the cooperation agreement, USTH and VinUni will develop specific programs and activities based on their respective strengths and resources. The partnership is expected to strengthen links among universities, research institutions, and enterprises, while creating opportunities for joint research, education, innovation, and technology transfer.
Through this cooperation, USTH and VinUni will contribute to the broader partnership between VAST and Vingroup and to the development of Vietnam’s science, technology, and innovation ecosystem.
