Representatives of University of Science and Technology of Hanoi – USTH (also called Vietnam France University) attended the Recruitment Day organised by Tuoi Tre Newspaper at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (Đại học Bách Khoa Hà Nội) on March 11th, 2018.
It was part of a series of 17 programmes and Recruitment Days held by Tuoi Tre newspaper across Vietnam from January to the end of March this year, in order to provide students, parents and teachers information about admission, training programmes and career prospects of majors of different educational institutes in Vietnam.
This time’s event drew participation of approximately 100 universities, colleges, vocational schools, language centres and overseas study consulting agencies at nearly 150 booths and thousands of visitors.
Currently, educational institutes have been asked by Ministry of Education and Training to complete their enrollment plans and targets. Most of them choose the traditional admission method based on the grades of the high school graduation exam.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Phung, Vice Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training stressed that students will compete to 1% of the grades due to the high competitiveness of the exam.
USTH is one of a few public universities in Hanoi choosing academic transcript assessment and interview for bachelor admission. Every year, the university organises different intakes prior to the national high school graduation exams, thus reducing pressure for students.
Early admission intakes also offer more opportunities for high school student to access to higher education, including those who do not study science subjects, and more time to prepare for the graduation exam. Interview is a popular method used by many prestigious universities in the world, including Harvard and Oxford, for admission intake because it helps comprehensively assess students, not only their academic transcripts but also individual aspiration.
Thanks to certain advantages of early intakes, USTH booth attracted a number of visitors, especially students studying the natural sciences. Participants were given detailed answers about the university’s training programmes and admission methods.
Besides, USTH also receives applications through the portal of the Ministry of Education and Training under the school code KCN. Admission plan and details about targets and major codes will be published on the Ministry’s website by March. However, students are encouraged to apply directly at USTH and its early intakes prior to the high school graduation exam.
The second intake for 13 programmes of USTH is being run through March 16th, 2018.
This year, in order to offer students with the best opportunities and support, USTH opens a one- year intensive English programme for candidates who English needs improving before entering their main programme.
