On May 13, 2018, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi – USTH (also known as Vietnam – France University) was a guest at the 2018 STEM Day, with the theme “Touch” – which means to touch the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0).
On this occasion, FabLab USTH brought creative products such as automatic Lego-assembled car and NAO robot with exciting performances such as the Gangnam Style dance, Tai-chi or voice interaction.
This year, the event was organized by Hanoi University of Science (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), the Science and Development Magazine, STEM Academy, Academy for Creation S3 and PoMath.
The event drew attendance of students from different age brackets, parents and teachers. Coming to the festival, students have the opportunity to experience 13 STEM model classrooms created by S3 Academy for Creation, STEM Academy, Kidscode Academy, Pomaths Institute, including Programming, Robotics, Applied Maths…
Besides, there were many interesting activities such as making recycling stuffs or “balloon car”, conducting fun experiment, introduced by schools such as the Olympia schools, Hung Yen Gifted High School, An Duong High School (Hai Phong) , Ta Quang Buu Secondary School (Hanoi).
In addition, students also visited the laboratories of Hanoi University of Science such as the Nano and Energy Center; Key Laboratory for Enzyme and Protein Technology, Museum of Geology…
In parallel with students activities is a number of activities for parents and teachers, including: Public lectures with two topics: Artificial Intelligence (by Prof. Ho Tu Bao – Director of Data Science Laboratory, Vietnam Institute for Advanced Studies in Mathematics, Director of John von Neumann Institute, VNU, Ho Chi Minh City) and Biological Safety with Genetically Modified Food (by Assoc.Prof Nguyen Quang Huy, Director of Biology Department, Hanoi University of Science, VNU, Hanoi).
Workshops for teachers and parents are hosted by educators of STEM Academy, providing helpful suggestions as well as valuable parenting guidances on STEM education and guidances for teachers to carry out STEM orientation lessons.
STEM education is an integrated approach to education that includes: science, technology, engineering and math. This is an advanced learning method applied in the new general education curriculum, as well as the beginning of the Industry 4.0.
STEM Day is an annual event within the scope of the Vietnam Science and Technology Day since 2014, following the initiative of Tia Sang Magazine (now is Tia Sang publication of Science and Development Magazine, Ministry of Science and Technology) and STEM Alliance, patronized by the Ministry of Science and Technology. This event was once held at USTH in 2017.
