A MoU signing ceremony between the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi – USTH (also called Vietnam France University) and the University of Transport and Communications (UTC) took place on August 8, 2018.
On the UTC side, the event was attended by Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Long- Rector, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Trinh – Head of Department of International Training, Dr. Nguyen Thi Mai – Head of Department of Fundamental Science and other representative lecturers.
On the USTH side was Prof. Patrick Boiron – Rector, Assoc. Prof. Ngo Duc Thanh – Vice Rector, Prof. Nguyen Dinh Quang – Director of Department of Energy, Dr. Dao Thanh Duong – Director of Undergraduate School and Mrs. Nguyen Ha Nhung – Head of Division of International Cooperation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Patrick Boiron, on the behalf of USTH, expressed his delight with new move in the partnership between USTH and UTC, and hoped that the event will contribute to open up new collaboration opportunities to enhance training and research quality of the two universities.
Agreeing with Prof. Patrick Boiron, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Long, Rector of UTC stressed that cooperating with USTH – a university with strength in fundamental science – is crucial to UTC which is an applied science university. Through joint activities, both universities are able to use their advantages to benefit students and lecturers.
Under the signed agreement, the two sides will cooperate initially in students training and lecturers exchange. Accordingly, with a tradition of training in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation and Control Engineering Technology, UTC will support USTH FabLab to expand its member network and seek funding for student events hosted by USTH FabLab such as Hackathon which is scheduled to take place in late 2018.
The two universities also agreed to conduct lecturer exchanges and joint research projects, particularly in the fields of Electronics, Energy and Materials Science.
Every year, USTH welcomes approximately 200 arrivals of lecturers who are scientists and researchers from prestigious French universities and research organizations in the USTH Consortium. USTH will send these lecturers to UTC to teach a number of courses, as well as participate in scientific seminars, workshops or conferences co-organized by UTC and USTH. In turn, UTC will also send its top lecturers to teach a number of courses at USTH. This is a great opportunity for students and lecturers to exchange and discuss new research directions.
Established in 1962, UTC provides a multi-disciplinary training in the fields of engineering, technology and economics. It is also affiliated with Agence universitaire de la Francophonie – AUF (Francophonie University Association). With nearly 1200 teachers and managers holding master’s degrees or above, it is one of the leading universities in Vietnam training high-quality human resources for the development of the country’s transportation industry.
