The USTH Department of Medicine and Pharmacy advances education and research in medicine and pharmacy through a strong foundation in science and technology, closely integrated with professional practice, innovation, and international engagement.
The Department of Medicine and Pharmacy was established in 2026, building upon the Pharmacy program launched by the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) in 2023. The establishment of the Department marks a new stage of development, bringing together resources for education, research, and collaboration in medicine and pharmacy at USTH.
In its initial stage, Pharmacy serves as the Department’s foundational academic program, with two main areas of specialization:
- Clinical Pharmacy
- Industrial Pharmacy
Building on this foundation, the Department plans to progressively develop new academic programs in medicine and pharmacy in line with the University’s capacities and societal needs, while establishing the long-term foundations for medical education once all necessary conditions are met.
IDENTITY
The Department of Medicine and Pharmacy builds upon three distinctive strengths of USTH:
- USTH – A science and technology university: providing a strong foundation for integrating science, technology, data, innovation, and research into medicine and pharmacy education.
- VAST – A scientific research ecosystem: enabling connections with research institutes, scientists, and research facilities across a broad range of relevant disciplines.
- France and the international network: leveraging USTH’s international profile, the French Consortium, and partnerships with universities, hospitals, research institutes, and international experts.
Together, these three pillars shape the distinctive identity and development of the Department.
Science – Technology – Practice – International Integration are the guiding principles throughout the Department’s development.
MISSION
The Department of Medicine and Pharmacy is committed to educating and developing human resources for the healthcare sector with a strong scientific foundation, professional competencies, research-oriented thinking, and the ability to adapt to advances in science, technology, and healthcare systems.
The Department seeks to integrate education with research, professional practice, and innovation, while strengthening connections among USTH – VAST – hospitals – research institutes – industry – international partners. Through this ecosystem, students are provided with opportunities to engage with academic knowledge, research, and professional practice throughout their education. This model places students at the center of the Department’s development ecosystem.
VISION
The Department of Medicine and Pharmacy aspires to become a reputable center for education, research, and innovation in medicine and pharmacy, distinguished by USTH’s science and technology identity, strong links with professional practice, and a high level of international integration.
In the long term, the Department aims to expand postgraduate education, develop medicine- and pharmacy-related fields associated with advanced technologies, strengthen interdisciplinary research, and establish a broad network of hospitals, professional practice sites, and international partners. These developments will progressively lay the foundation for USTH to establish a comprehensive medicine, pharmacy, and healthcare ecosystem.
DEVELOPMENT ORIENTATION
In its initial years, the Department will focus on consolidating and enhancing the quality of the Pharmacy program, developing its academic staff, strengthening practice-based education and research, and expanding partnerships with hospitals, research institutes, pharmaceutical companies, and French partners.
Subject to the availability of qualified academic staff, infrastructure, and quality assurance conditions, the Department plans to progressively develop new academic programs, expand postgraduate education, and prepare the necessary foundations for medical education in the future.
The development of new academic programs will follow an appropriate roadmap in compliance with current regulations, USTH’s actual capacities, and quality assurance requirements.
AN ECOSYSTEM FOR STUDENT DEVELOPMENT
The distinctive approach of the Department lies not only in its academic programs, but also in the environment in which students learn and develop.
USTH provides the academic and quality assurance foundation; VAST broadens access to a strong research environment; hospitals and healthcare facilities provide exposure to professional practice; industry partners connect students with technology and career opportunities; and the international network provides access to international experts, research collaborations, and academic exchange.
Through this ecosystem, the Department aims to provide students with opportunities to:
- study in well-structured programs with clearly defined learning outcomes;
- gain practical exposure through laboratories, research institutes, hospitals, and industry;
- engage in research at an early stage alongside research groups and scientists;
- experience a genuinely international academic environment through English-medium education, international experts, and academic exchange opportunities;
- learn and develop in a rigorous, open, and responsive academic environment.
