Essential skills of presenting scientific papers in international journals were shared by Assoc. Prof. Phan Manh Huong, head of the editorial boards of three international journals on Material, with lecturers, researchers and students at a seminar on on July 23, 2018 in Hanoi.
Over 300 people attended the event held by the Department of Fundamental and Applied Sciences of USTH.
Titled “Basic writing skills for International Scientific Journals”, the event aimed to provide researchers with writing skills and methods to solve problems researchers encountered in the middle of publishing scientific journals
With 15 years of conducting research and publishing over 240 articles on international journals, Dr. Huong explained carefully essential writing skills, from author’s name to title, structure and summary of an article.
Participants were also provided with the necessary information on how to select the right journal for their articles, how to write to the Editor and how to feedback reviewers.
Pham Thi Ngoc Anh, a 3rd year student of USTH’s Food Science and Technology program, said during her studies at USTH, she has learned how to analyze scientific papers.
However, this workshop has given her an overview of presenting an internationally-standardized scientific paper, which is crucial for her study and career, especially if she want to follow a research path in the future, she added.
Assoc. Prof. Phan Manh Huong currently works at the Department of Physics, University of South Florida – USA (University of South Florida). Prior to that, he received a Bachelor’s degree from the National University of Hanoi in 2000, a Master’s degree from Chungbuk National University in South Korea in 2003 and a Ph.D degree at Bristol University- UK in 2006.
He is also now the editor of three international magazines, including the journal “Journal of Electronic Materials” – the world’s most prestigious ISI magazine (with more than 45 years of operation) in the field of electronic materials; the “Applied Sciences” journal and the “Advanced Materials and Devices” journal – one of the most prestigious international journals in Vietnam today.
With the study cited over 6600 times and a scientific index (h-index) of 40, Dr. Huong is among the young scientists with high citation index in the field of Magnetism (Google Scholar). Scholar). He has also been invited to present an overview report and presentation at world prestigious international conferences (MMM, MRS, APS, ICM, ISAMMA, etc.).
