Last June, Assoc. Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh – Rector of University of Science and Technology of Hanoi and the delegation had a business trip to visit and exchange strategic cooperation at the Munich University of Applied Sciences, Germany.
From June 24th, 2023 to June 28th, 2023, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) delegation visited and exchanged with representatives of Munich University of Applied Sciences (HM), Germany. Delegation members include Assoc. Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, Rector of USTH; Assoc.Prof. Nguyen Van Quynh, Co-Director of Department of Advanced Materials Science and Nanotechnology; Dr. Hoang Trung Kien, Director of Department of Applied Engineering and Technology; Mr. Nguyen Nam Son, in charge of Department of Equipment Management; and Ms. Nguyen Phuong Nhi, Department of International Cooperation.
Regarding Munich University of Applied Sciences, for more than 50 years of establishment and development, the University has achieved high positions in training in Germany. It has strong relationships with industry partners such as Bosch, and Airbus with the motto that training goes hand in hand with practice and encourages entrepreneurship. After graduation, HM University students often achieve good salaries and clear career paths.
During the business trip, USTH delegation met representatives of faculties, departments, and the Rector Board of the partner university. Some main activities during the business trip are as follows:
In the first two working days, from June 24th to June 25th, USTH delegation visited three campuses in Munich, Germany. The main campus is located at Lothstraße Campus, which provides education to nearly 11,800 students in various fields of science and technology. The campus is equipped with modern facilities, libraries, and specialized laboratories. During the visit, USTH delegation gained lots of experience in designing and constructing classrooms, investing in infrastructure to maximize the learning and research space, and creating a connection with nature. The meeting rooms and classrooms were designed with open spaces, utilizing natural light and air while ensuring comfort and individual space for each class. HM University also established an exhibition room to showcase students’ scientific and technical products and organize scientific and technical events.
On June 26th, during the working session with Ms. Julia Grabrinska Koscienlny – Coordinator of Department of International Cooperation, who shared HM University’s experiences in organizing activities for students, and supporting students in finding jobs and expanding their social networks. Examples organizing job fairs for students and attracting businesses to participate in these activities. The university always provides opportunities for students to start up their own businesses, establishes investment funds for students, and has advisory boards to support business strategy development and project management. In addition, HM University demonstrates its strength in student exchange by providing scholarships for cultural exchange programs.
During the same day, USTH delegation met and exchanged information with Prof. Peter Schiebener representative of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Automation, and Aerospace Engineering, regarding the department’s training programs, exchange opportunities, internships for students, and visits to the engine manufacturing lab, automotive workshops, and practical laboratories.
In the working session with Prof. Matthias Rebhan representative of Department of Engineering and Management, USTH delegation directly discussed the Master’s program in Business Administration and Engineering at HM University. The program consists of 30% scientific teaching, 50% business administration, and 20% thesis.
On June 27th, USTH delegation visited and worked with Prof. Pham Gia Khanh, the representative of Department of Applied Sciences and Electrical Engineering, including visits to the Clean Room, material research room, micro-nano research room, and production workshops. Prof. Khanh emphasized the importance of applying the knowledge learned in classrooms to practical laboratory work and providing internship opportunities for students at large factories.
End of the business trip, Assoc. Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh and her delegation had a meeting with Prof. Sonja Munz, Vice President of Munich University of Applied Sciences, and other representatives of HM University, including Ms. Corinna Frohling, Coordinator of Department of International Relations and Prof. Pham Gia Khanh. They discussed the training and education philosophy of the USTH and expressed their desire to establish deep and extensive cooperation with HM University in training and research projects. Prof. Sonja Munz also showed interest in the training programs at USTH, especially the Aerospace Engineering program, and cooperation in doctoral training.
The business trip to HM University would be considered very successful. USTH delegation achieved agreements on student and staff exchange to Germany, and expanded the university’s cooperation with educational partners and foreign enterprises, beyond the main strategic partner, French universities. Additionally, HM University would support USTH to establish the Master’s program in Science Management, laying an important foundation for launching new programs at USTH and spreading internationally standardized training programs to Vietnam.
