1. About us
University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH, also called Vietnam – France University) is a public university, which was established in 2009 under the Intergovernmental Agreement between Vietnam and France with the ambition to become one of the most excellent research-oriented universities at an international standard in Vietnam.
USTH is under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), the nation’s leading research institution; also, strongly supported by the Consortium of more than 30 French leading universities and research institutes in training and research. USTH is proud to be the symbol of Vietnam – France cooperation in education and research.
2. Our education
USTH is the leading university in Asia following the Bologna process for Diploma, which is widely applied in more than 45 European countries. Accordingly, the training duration for Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral programs is 3, 2, and 3 years respectively.
On November 7, 2023, the university had the honor of receiving the institutional accreditation certification from HCERES (The High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education) – an independent and prestigious education quality accreditation organization in France and Europe. With this, USTH became the youngest among six universities in Vietnam to achieve institutional accreditation from HCERES.
The university cooperates with renowned French universities in the fields of science and technology to offer joint training programs and co-award master’s degrees in science. Since 2022, USTH has launched a dual degree program between Vietnam and France for three undergraduate majors: Biotechnology – Drug Discovery, Information and Communication Technology, and Chemistry. Accordingly, students will study the first two years at USTH and the third year at the French partner university. Upon graduation, they will receive two degrees: one from USTH and one from the French partner university.
USTH provides an international high-quality training environment with the main language in English and a team of dedicated and experienced lecturers in training and research in Vietnam and in the world. The University aims to train students comprehensively through extensive research and research activities, encouraging autonomy, critical creative thinking; also, creating an environment to nurture and develop the passion in science. Students learn theoretical and practical knowledge through practice sessions in modern laboratories, opportunities of participating in research projects with lecturers, and field trips at enterprises and manufactories, etc.
A unique feature of USTH’s training program is that students are introduced and supported to find internship opportunities for 3-6 months at universities and research institutes in France and many other countries with advanced science and technology in Europe and Asia such as Germany, Finland, Italia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, etc.
3. Our research
USTH aims to become a world-class research university with research projects that have long-term academic values, high applicability to socio-economic development. The current major research areas of the University include Artificial intelligence, data science, and machine learning; applied biotechnology in smart agriculture; health care, advanced materials; recycled energy; remote sensing; environment; combating climate change and sustainable development.
With the strong support of the governing body, VAST, the French Embassy in Vietnam, the Consortium of more than 30 French universities and research institutes, the French Institute of Research for Development (IRD) and with the investment from the Government of Vietnam, USTH has built 2 international joint laboratories and 1 strong research group, 2 potential research groups, bringing the participation of many excellent and experienced scientists at universities, research organizations of Vietnam, France, and many other countries.
Up to December 2023, USTH had 636 science publications in prestigious international magazines in the list of SCI, SCI-E. On average: 1,26 articles in the list of SCI & SCI-E / 1 lecturer / 1 year. The university ranks third among the institutions under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in terms of the quantity and quality of international SCI-E publications.
