We are pleased to announce that the sixth edition of the Vietnam School of Earth Observation (VSEO-6) will be held from September 7-12, 2026 at ICISE in Quy Nhon, Vietnam. The topic of this edition is “Satellite Altimetry – A Tool for Continental Water Monitoring”
This year’s edition will focus on satellite altimetry for continental waters, offering a comprehensive exploration of how to process raw satellite data, create and visualize time series. Participants will learn to retrieve, process, and validate altimetry data from operational missions of the Copernicus constellation, as well as research missions such as the revolutionary SWOT mission. The goal is to transform these observations into actionable insights for a wide range of applications like water resources monitoring (rivers, lakes, reservoirs), disaster monitoring (flood), transboundary river management and climate change studies.
The program will highlight how satellite altimetry can contribute to our understanding of water dynamics, with particular emphasis on its integration in hydrological modeling frameworks. Through lectures, hands-on sessions, and seminars led by European and Vietnamese experts, attendees will gain both theoretical and practical skills.
Building on the success of previous VSEO summer schools, VSEO-6 is designed for young researchers, engineers, and educators seeking to develop or deepen their expertise in the use of satellite altimetry data for inland hydrology monitoring. Applications are open to participants from Vietnam, as well as to a limited number of participants from Southeast Asia, France and other countries. Participants will also have the opportunities to present their own research through short oral presentations and posters. In addition, the school will provide opportunities to establish research collaborations between participants and speakers, and to exchange ideas on potential research topics.
