The Doctoral Day, organized by the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH), took place successfully on May 28, 2024.
In the opening speech, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest, Principal Rector of USTH, emphasized the importance of research in developing a university and the indispensable role of PhD students in research activities. Doctoral Day is not only an event for doctoral students to exchange and learn from scientists inside and outside USTH but also an opportunity for them to present their research results and reflect on their efforts and progress.
Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest shared that USTH currently offers three types of PhD programs: the USTH PhD programs, the PhD programs under Project 89, and the Cotutelles PhD programs in partnership with French institutions. Additionally, USTH has policies to support PhD students by offering contracts and salaries to assist them in their studies and research. Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest expressed his wish for the event’s success and hoped the PhD students would gain valuable experiences to enrich their research careers.
This year, 23 reports were selected to present in various fields such as Biotechnology, Materials Science, and Information Technology. The Evaluation Council highly regarded the quality of the reports. After lively presentations and discussions, the council selected two outstanding presentations.
– “Genomic characterization of the mitochondrial genome and ribosomal transcription units of intestinal flukes Echinostoma miyagawai” by PhD student Pham Thi Khanh Linh (majoring in Pharmacological, Medical and Agronomical Biotechnology)
– “Utilizing the CRISPR/Cas9 system to induce targeted mutations of SlbZIP-uORFs for tomato fruit improvement” by PhD student Nguyen Hong Nhung (majoring in Pharmacological, Medical and Agronomical Biotechnology)
In addition, the program featured heartfelt sharing from speakers: Assoc. Prof. Do Thi Thao from the Institute of Biotechnology with the topic “Vietnam’s biotechnology potential and current development directions: Successful research path for PhD students”; Dr. Luc Le Calvez, Director of the Research, Innovation, and Technology Transfer Department with the topic “Suggestions to improve USTH’s doctoral training through cooperation with France and building a research-oriented University at USTH”; Dr. Tran Buu Dang, Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Houston, USA with the topic: “Passionate research and starting a scientific career and the journey to receive a PhD at USTH”.
The Doctoral Day program concluded successfully, providing useful information to attendees, especially PhD students on their future research paths.
