USTH ranked 6th in the Nature Index table 2019

As in the most recent release, Nature Index has ranked USTH in sixth place among Vietnamese universities and research institutes leading in the number of high quality international research publications for the period from 1/2018 to 12/2018.This is the 3rd consecutive year that USTH has made itself into this prestigious ranking table. In 2017 and 2018, USTH came 7th.

In the period from 1/2018 to 12/2018, USTH has contributed high quality research papers in world leading journals in science such as Chemical Communications, Geophysical Research Letters and Journal of The American Chemical Society. This achievement is thanks to the excellent works by Dr. Tran Dinh Phong, Director of Fundamental Applied Science Department, Dr. Marine Herrmann, Director of Water, Environment and Oceanography Department, and Nguyen Van Quyen, PhD student in Advanced Materials Science and Nanotechnology, and other university colleagues.

The Nature Index is a database of author affiliations and institutional relationships. The index tracks contributions to research articles published in 82 high-quality natural science journals, chosen by an independent group of researchers. The Nature Index provides absolute and fractional counts (AC and FC) of article publication at the institutional and national level and, as such, is an indicator of global high-quality research output and collaboration. Each year, the Nature Index publishes tables based on counts of high-quality research outputs in the previous calendar year.

David Swinbanks, Founder of the Nature Index, made a remark: with some smaller institutes coming in tops of this year’s annual tables, it proved that size has nothing to do with research quality. Furthermore, it also demonstrated that small institutes with a big ambition and a strong focus on interdisciplinarity, embracing collaboration across fields, will have high potential in producing high quality research.

It is an encouraging result for USTH, a young university with a small number of lecturers and researchers but has made itself into prestigious world-renowned ranking tables. It strongly demonstrated USTH’s commitment to becoming an international standard research-oriented university.
