On June 28th, 2023, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) had a meeting with Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP) on the cooperation plan for the upcoming time.
Participating in the meeting, on the side of USTH was Assoc. Prof. Tran Dinh Phong – Vice Rector, Dr. Nguyen Quang Huy – Deputy Director of Department of Life Sciences, Dr. Nguyen Thy Ngoc – Deputy Director of Department of Academic Affairs, Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Nga – Head of Department of Student Affairs, Ms. To Minh Phuong – Head of Department of Marketing, Communication and Brand Management, Ms. Do Thi Thuy Trang – Deputy Director of Department of International Cooperation; on the side of ISEP was Prof. Maria Cristina Castro Ribeiro – Degree Director of Biomedical Engineering degree, Prof. Jorge Manuel Pinto de Jesus Garrido – Degree Director of Bioresources degree, Prof. Joao Francisco Gomes da Silva – Former Degree Director lecturer in Mechanical engineering, research field in composites materials, Ms. Alexandra Maria Marinho Trincao – Head of International Relations.
After welcoming the delegates, the two parties introduced their overview information and development plans.
Established in 2009, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) is a public university within the framework of the Intergovernmental Agreement between the two countries Vietnam and France with the orientation of becoming an excellent world-class university training in science and technology as well as a research university with research projects that have long-term academic values, high applicability to socio-economic development. The University cooperates with the prestigious universities and research institutes in France to co-award Master’s degrees and opens a Vietnam-France double degree program for 3 majors. USTH has built 2 international joint laboratories and 1 strong research group, 2 potential research groups, bringing the participation of many excellent and experienced scientists at universities, research organizations of Vietnam, France, and many other countries.
Founded in 1852, Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP) is a public polytechnic higher learning and research engineering institute, located in the city of Porto, Portugal. ISEP is divided into 8 departments, with an emphasis on applied science and technology. ISEP is one of the biggest and best known engineering schools in Portugal, with well over 6000 students and 500 faculty members. It has research facilities for real-time systems, artificial intelligence, knowledge based systems, and decision support systems, some of them internationally recognized as leading R&D centers.
After the introduction, the representatives of two universities discussed the tentative cooperation plans in the future. The discussion focused on exchange programs and internships for students, especially in automotive engineering, chemical engineering, biotechnology, electrical engineering. It was suggested that students of two universities can exchange for one semester within their academic years and can choose each other universities for internship. In addition, students will be well supported in the time of exchange and will be fully informed about the programs by two universities’ international relations departments.
At the end of the meeting, the representatives of USTH and ISEP agreed with the cooperation proposals and expressed their desire to develop a stronger long-term cooperation relationship. The universities look forward to further discussions in the upcoming meetings with representatives from their departments and hope to sign the Memorandum of Understanding soon.
