Launched in 2025, the Master’s Program in Applied Mathematics at the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) is taught entirely in English, following European academic standards. The program aims to train a generation of experts with strong logical thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to solve real-world problems in the era of data and digital technology.

1. Overview
The Master’s Program in Applied Mathematics at USTH is designed for those who enjoy logical thinking and wish to apply mathematics to modeling, data processing, artificial intelligence, finance, economics, and modern engineering.
The program builds on the success of the International Master’s Program in Mathematics and is delivered entirely in English, in accordance with European academic standards.
The faculty includes experienced professors and doctors from USTH and the Institute of Mathematics — an institution with a long track record in delivering international graduate mathematics programs. The program also welcomes lecturers from overseas universities through partnerships with the International Research Laboratory for Mathematics in Vietnam (IRL For Math Vietnam) – France, the International Centre for Pure and Applied Mathematics (CIMPA) – France, the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) – Italy, and the International Center for Research and Training in Mathematics (ICRTM) at the Institute of Mathematics.

2. Curriculum
2.1. Program Objectives
The program aims to develop high-quality human resources with a solid foundation in applied mathematics and practical problem-solving skills, enabling graduates to work at agencies, enterprises, and educational institutions both in Vietnam and internationally.
Specifically, students will:
- Master core areas including probability and statistics, numerical methods, optimization, discrete mathematics, and mathematical modeling;
- Understand and apply modern techniques in machine learning, financial mathematics, and data simulation;
- Develop critical thinking, independent research skills, and academic communication in English.

2.3. Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the program, graduates will be equipped with a solid foundation in modern mathematics, innovative thinking, and strong research and applied capabilities.
- Knowledge: Thorough understanding of modern mathematics and information technology; mastery of specialized areas including Optimization and Algorithms, Probability and Statistics, Differential Equations and Computational Science, and Data Analysis. Foundational knowledge in project management.
- Skills: Ability to analyze real-world problems, design and build mathematical models to address optimization challenges. Proficiency in carrying out research plans, working independently and in teams. Fluency in English with the ability to use French in professional contexts.
- Competencies and Attitude: Professional and ethical conduct, with a commitment to lifelong learning. Adaptability to diverse and international working environments, or the ability to pursue advanced research pathways.
2.4. Career Opportunities
With a strong foundation in applied mathematics, programming skills, modeling expertise, and academic English proficiency, graduates are well-positioned to pursue careers in research, education, technology, and international business environments.
In Academia and Research
- Teach or conduct research at universities, research institutes, or science and technology centers in Vietnam and abroad.
- Continue doctoral (PhD) studies in fields such as Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Engineering, or Quantitative Finance at universities in Europe and beyond.
