A 3D design training course for university lecturers was organised by FabLab USTH from August 20-24 with the funding of International Organisation of the Francophonie or Agency universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF).
The course is part of the project “Soutien à l’esprit d’innovation et au renforcement des compétences en nouvelle technologie – Fablab USTH” (Supporting and enhancing innovation, creativitiy and new advances application – FabLab USTH) of the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi – USTH, sponsored by AUF. This is the first activities of the 3-year project, attracting a number of lecterers from universities in Hanoi.
The programe aims to deliver fundamental knowledge on 3D design and 3D design softwares, especially the 3D CATIA system by France’s Dassault Systemes company, in order to manufacturing highly applicable and practical industrial products.
In addition, participants are expected to become mentors of FabLab USTH and share obtained knowledge and skills during the course to other individuals, contributing to build a innovative and creative community with the spirite of global FabLab.
The course was atteded by lecturers of universities which are members of Francophonie group and partners of USTH FabLab, including University of Transport and Communications, National University of Civil Engineering, Hanoi Architectural University and Institut Francophone International.
During the five-day course, participants were introduced to the general process of industrial production development, kinetic analysis and technical drawingso of details and products.
Particularly, they also practised two methods of manufacturing products, namely CNC maching and 3D printing using CATIA software of Dassault Systemes company in the PLMCC – Product Lifecycle Management Competency Centre.
Nguyen Thi Minh Phuong, Lecturer of Faculty of Interior ann Industrial Design, Hanoi Architectural University (HAU), said the course is helpful and truly applicable, particularly for lecturers working at arts and technology universities like her and other course mates.
The program provided her with latest design softwares or printing programs that she had never used before, Phuong added.
She also said that with the skills and knowledge obtained during the course will be helpful for her lessons at the HAU.
Meanwhile, Dao Duy Lam, lecturer from University of Transport and Communications, spoke highly of CATIA software, which is modern and visual in developing creative ideas as well as applying in his teaching career at the university.
All participants were awarded a completion certificates for attending fully the program. The know-how and skills delivered through the course are hoped helpful for lectureres in teaching and sharing the innovation spirit of FabLab USTH to students and public, thus connecting more science and technology lovers in Hanoi and across Vietnam.
FabLab USTH, under the sponsorship of AUF, is an open, innovative space that helps technology lovers transform ideas into experimental products, thereby finding solutions solve problems effectively and optimally. Designed with four spaces: co-working, designing, training, manufacturing. FabLab USTH is expected to officially open in October 2018. However, from 2017 until now, it has organized many activities to encourage creativity and initiatives of students such as the HACKATHON 24h Patent Competition, the 3D printer assembly course at the US Center and STEM activities in high schools in the northern provinces.
