On July 2, 2025, the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) and the Consortium for the Development of USTH (USTH Consortium) held a signing ceremony for a strategic cooperation agreement covering the period from 2025 to 2030.
The agreement reaffirms the close partnership between USTH and the consortium of over 30 prestigious French universities and research institutes in the fields of training, research, international collaboration, and university governance.
Established in 2010, the USTH Consortium brings together more than 30 prestigious French higher education institutions and research institutes. Its mission is to support USTH in its development as an excellent university in science and technology, contributing to the training of high-quality human resources for Vietnam and the region.
The ceremony was attended by Prof. Jean-Paul Deroin, President of the USTH Consortium; Prof. Dr. Jean-Marc Lavest, Principal Rector of USTH; and representatives from USTH’s Department of International Cooperation.

In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Jean-Marc Lavest highlighted the crucial role the USTH Consortium has played in the development of USTH, noting that the strong, ongoing partnership has contributed significantly to enhancing the quality of education, research, and the international academic environment at USTH.
Prof. Jean-Paul Deroin praised USTH’s achievements over the past 16 years and affirmed the USTH Consortium’s commitment to continuing its role as a strategic partner. He emphasized that the USTH Consortium will further strengthen its role in connecting USTH with French universities and research institutions, effectively supporting academic, research, and governance initiatives that align with USTH’s long-term development goals.
Under the newly signed agreement, both parties agree to enhance collaboration in university governance. As part of this, the Principal Rector of USTH serves as an advisor to the USTH Consortium’s Board of Directors and its annual General Assembly, while the President of the Consortium takes part in USTH’s Scientific and Academic Council.
Regarding academic programs, both sides commit to jointly developing and accrediting dual-degree programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. In addition, they will work to promote online learning and expand opportunities for student exchanges and internships between Vietnam and France.
The USTH Consortium acts as a bridge, encouraging its member institutions to offer tuition fee waivers in France for students enrolled in USTH degree programs. It also promotes greater involvement of French partners in USTH’s bachelor’s programs and supports students in securing internships at member universities and research institutes.
Regarding research, both sides reaffirm their commitment to fostering international research networks, joint projects, and collaborative laboratories between research groups at USTH and those at Consortium member institutions. They will also co-sponsor scholarships and support doctoral students participating in co-supervised PhD programs and cotutelle programs.
In addition, both sides commit to intensifying communication and publicity efforts to promote their academic and research activities, aiming to enhance USTH’s visibility and reputation in the region and internationally.
