On November 4, 2026, the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) held a ceremony to award scholarships and financial support to students facing hardship in the 2026-2027 academic year. With nearly VND 2 billion contributed by the University, its partner banks and generous donors, the programme helps ease financial pressure and enables students to pursue their studies with greater confidence.
Nearly VND 2 Billion from Multiple Sources of Support
During the 2026-2027 academic year, nearly VND 2 billion in Opportunities Scholarships (OS), tuition fee support and financial assistance was provided to students facing difficult circumstances and those eligible for support under Decree No. 238/2025/ND-CP.
USTH allocated nearly VND 370 million for 16 Opportunities Scholarships. The University’s two partner banks also continued their support for USTH students. Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) – Hanoi City Branch awarded 25 Opportunities Scholarships worth a total of VND 50 million, while Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) – Thang Long Branch provided 17 Opportunities Scholarships with a combined value of VND 34 million.

Alongside funding from the University and its partners, generous donors contributed a total of VND 305 million to student support initiatives. Of this amount, VND 280 million was allocated to cover second-semester tuition fees for 10 students facing particularly difficult circumstances.
A further VND 15 million funded three scholarships for students who have lost both parents and ethnic minority students from near-poor households in areas facing particularly difficult socio-economic conditions. The remaining VND 10 million was provided to support a student who sustained serious injuries in a road accident during the first semester.

In addition, USTH allocated VND 1.2 billion in tuition support for 32 students eligible under Decree No. 238/2025/ND-CP. The beneficiaries include students who have lost both parents, students with disabilities, ethnic minority students from areas facing particularly difficult socio-economic conditions, and other eligible groups specified by the regulation.
Although provided in different forms, these sources of support share the same purpose: easing students’ financial burden, helping them continue their studies and enabling them to pursue their aspirations.
Encouragement for the Journey Ahead
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, Rector of USTH, shared that although people cannot choose the circumstances or places into which they are born, they can choose how they live and the path they wish to follow.

According to the Rector, the road to success is rarely smooth or paved with a red carpet. The difficulties students face may make their journey more challenging, but they do not have to walk it alone. The University, lecturers, partner organisations and donors will continue to stand beside them, offering support and encouragement as they move forward.
Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh expressed her hope that the scholarships and financial assistance presented at the ceremony would give students greater courage and strength to overcome obstacles, remain committed to their choices and gradually move closer to where they aspire to be.
She also announced that USTH plans to establish a scholarship and student development fund in 2027 for students who are passionate about science but face financial hardship.
The fund is expected to expand access to USTH’s academic programmes and help capable, aspiring students pursue a future in science without being held back by financial barriers. Through this initiative, more ambitions can be nurtured and gradually turned into reality.
“A Light in the Darkness”
For Nguyen Tien Dung, a student in Information and Communication Technology, the support from the University and its donors has carried particular significance throughout his journey to USTH.

Having lost his father and grown up in a family facing financial hardship, Dung felt uncertain when the time came to choose a university. Although he strongly wished to study at USTH, the tuition fees placed considerable pressure on his family, leading him to consider giving up on his choice.
The assistance of generous donors, together with the dedicated guidance and encouragement of his lecturers, gave Dung the confidence to enrol at USTH and continue pursuing his aspiration.
Sharing his feelings at the ceremony, Dung said: “To me, the support from the University was like a light in the darkness, illuminating the way and helping me find my direction.”
Dung’s experience illustrates how timely support can create a turning point in a student’s life. Beyond its financial value, such assistance reminds students that their efforts are recognised and that there are people ready to stand beside them.
Supporting Students in Times of Need
During the first semester of the 2026-2027 academic year, USTH student Nguyen Sy Duc sustained serious injuries in a road accident and had to undergo a knee disarticulation procedure on one leg. He is currently receiving further treatment and awaiting the fitting of a prosthetic leg.
In response to his circumstances, donors contributed an additional VND 10 million to support his treatment and recovery. While the contribution cannot cover every challenge faced by Duc and his family, this timely assistance carries meaningful encouragement, giving him greater strength to continue treatment and gradually adapt to life after the accident.

The support provided to Duc also broadens the significance of the programme beyond scholarships and tuition assistance. When students experience unexpected hardship, the collective support of the University and the wider community can become an essential source of strength during a difficult period.
Expanding Opportunities for Students to Pursue Their Aspirations
Each scholarship and financial contribution presented at the ceremony carries compassion and confidence in students who are striving to overcome adversity. The funding helps ease the pressure of tuition fees and living expenses, allowing students to focus on their studies, complete unfinished goals and take a more active role in their personal development.
USTH extends its sincere appreciation to Vietcombank – Thang Long Branch, VietinBank – Hanoi City Branch and all generous donors for joining the University in supporting its students. Their collective contributions have expanded access to education and provided a valuable source of encouragement for resilient and ambitious students as they continue moving forward.
The University hopes that this encouragement will help students remain steadfast in the face of challenges, continue nurturing their passions and achieve positive results throughout the 2026-2027 academic year.
