On October 16th, 2023, a cooperation agreement between University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) and Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP) was officially signed. The signing ceremony was held online.
Participating in the ceremony, on the side of USTH was Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest – Principal Rector, Dr. Hoang Trung Kien – Director of Department of Applied Engineering and Technology, Dr. Nguyen Thy Ngoc – Deputy Director of Department of Quality Assurance and Examination, Ms. Do Thi Thuy Trang – Deputy Head of Department of International Cooperation; on the side of ISEP was Prof. Maria João Viamonte – President, Prof. António Vega – Vice President, Prof. Gustavo Alves – President’s Advisor for Internationalisation, Ms. Alexandra Trincão – Coordinator of Communication and Cooperation Division.
After introducing and welcoming the delegates attending the ceremony, the representatives of USTH and ISEP made remarks on the cooperation between two parties.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Do Thi Thuy Trang – Deputy Director of Department of International Cooperation (USTH) shared that by the end of 2022, USTH and ISEP had a chance to first work together in the approved Erasmus ICM project for mobility 2021 – 2027. The agreement opened great opportunities in mobility for staff between the two universities to work in each their own campus. Specifically, in April 2023, USTH had sent 02 staff to visit ISEP campus in Porto, Portugal to discuss different aspects of cooperation such as research possibilities, staff exchange, and highly focusing on engaging student mobility. The trip was a first step in preparing the framework of a concrete official cooperation between USTH and ISEP. Then later in June 2023, USTH welcomed the ISEP delegation at USTH campus in Hanoi, Vietnam. Through the trip, both sides understand the strengths of each institution and reaffirm the plan of an official partnership agreement between the two institutions – the Memorandum of understanding.
Making an opening remark, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest – Principal Rector of USTH expressed his delight at the new milestone in the partnership between USTH and ISEP. The two universities have many similarities such as following the Bologna process for Diploma and having strong relationships with leading engineering institutions in France. Professor showed his belief in the success of the cooperation plan in the future, including collaboration in a broad range of projects between lecturers and researchers from two parties, students and staff exchange.
On behalf of ISEP, Prof. Maria João Viamonte – President, affirmed that ISEP is excited for joint research projects with USTH as well as academic visits in the upcoming time. This will create a multicultural and multilingual training environment for both universities. Professor expected that by the cooperation, the academic programmes and student/staff mobilities of both universities will be materially enriched.
At the end of the ceremony, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest and Prof. Maria João Viamonte signed the cooperation agreement between USTH and ISEP, opening up academic as well as cultural exchange opportunities for students, lecturers and researchers of the two parties in the near future.
